Congrats Colburt187 on your latest game Dunkers!

I have a question about getting recognized/featured by Apple. (Besides the fact that the game has be good) Do you contact them and schedule a release date? or do you just release it and hope they notice it? I always see developers launching games before Thursday and then getting featured afterwards. I always wondered if they contact apple or apple sends them an email or does it happen by surprise?

For my first few games I emailed the appstorepromotions@apple.com email address, I never got any response though. So it was really just the case of release and hope. The App Store rolls over every Thursday (changing a bit in the US now) so I always release on a Wednesday in the hope of being included in the new featured apps.

Apple generally don't contact you and will almost never confirm a feature. Now that I have built up a bit of a reputation I have a contact at apple, I send him info about the game and when I'm planing on releasing, which is normally around 3 weeks after the game has been approved for release. All they say is "thanks for the info" no other indication If i will get a feature or not.

So my advice is, make a great game, try to get it some press before release, Articles from touch arcade, maybe a youtube video, release on a Wednesday, and hope for the best.

Thank you for the advice! I will surely take it. Im releasing my game in a few weeks, so wish me luck! :)

I may as well keep this up to date, just ticked over to 6million total downloads on iOS, mostly due to recent features for Dunkers.

top 3 games are,

Dunkers is currently at 2.54mill
Battle Golf 1.04mill
Wrassling 832k

hoping for another big year this year.

Yeah the regular features have helped a lot to keep the downloads flowing, Dunkers is also in a collection in the US right now.

Little Update, after 2 releases in the first half of this year total downloads are now at 9.38million. Touchdowners got 1million downloads in its first week so quickly jumped up to the number 2 slot.
