Is Stencyl PR active ?

Currently it seems that Justin is only one who is willing to give comments related to future of Stencyl.. I agree that it's very vague when Jon says that in upcoming future they are just concentrating polishing and fixing bugs..

The lack of news or even a message in the forum doesn't look good. I would hate seeing Stencyl discontinued :(

Since Jon has cleared the situation, my words in this thread are now absolutely obsolet and wrong so i descided to change the color of my old text!

This could be also a good news ! They could finally make Stencyl for free and Open Source so the extremely slow progress could be accelerated !

To be honest: Stencyl has lost the fight ! They have no chance to win against other free and Open source Engines with the price of 199$ every year and you can't even use the absolut standard features like AdMob (Bugs), Gamepad support for all or Facebook features, There are tons of not existing features or they are full of bugs. See Google Play Functions !  not usable, and this in 2016 ! Sorry, but this is not acceptable for such a price !

Make Stencyl for free and Open source , let the customers pay for Cloud Compile
features and they have a future, otherwise Stencyl is almost dead in my opinion.  Sad but true!

Yeah well im a user that pegged Stencyl as an option for me. I develop on Mac so native game makers are a bit sparse.
I've been dabling with other non game related stuff after initially looking at Stencyl but now the time has come for me to start making my games with more seriousness.

I had Stencyl as the top of the options for 2D but the more I think about it I should just stick with Unity and try the 2D in it with Playmaker although I think Stencyl will be able to do what I need faster. I just don't feel so confident in it's future.
There is another 1 or 2 non coding options i guess but the don't look as powerful as Stencyl to me.

Bottom line is i dont want to START now and invest time and energy into something that has a questionmark on it's future.
Even if its fine now... I have had experiences before where a silent dev group then ultimately meant bugs and issues didn't get addressed for a long time then they quit the product in a sense. (Nevercenter Silo)

The cool thing with Stencyl ( and that's why I use it) is that the engine itself is open source, and even if the company closes down, you can still find a way to compile your games. :)

Maybe they could have the interface  open source too .. And change way to gain money if they're not motivated .
Like have some monthly suggestions where you could pool in some money.

As a Windows User i would love to pay for a cloud based compilling service ! Maybe you doesn't know , but years ago, they had that feature and Stencyl's cost was 99$ a year ! Now it cost 199$ a year but cloud based compilling doest not exist anymore :-(

That feeling is terrible and is not good for any company. User confidence is important and crucial for a company success.
I love Stencyl, it was the result of an excellent idea, it is great. The Stencyl Team is very friendly.
I have always been sure that Stencyl, with a stronger support (more people working on it) and a good promotion would be much more solid and successful and would become the flagship program of the 2D games creation software, and people would trust the future of Stencyl.
So, respectfully, I think the best bet would be to invest in more support and promotion for Stencyl.
This seems to be a necessary and timely investment.
Honestly, I think a company should never limit itself in a drastic, risky, or suicidal way.
It is painful for me to read in this thread all these complaints full of distrust and discouragement.
Stencyl really has a lot of potential, it only needs boost. So, please, more support and promotion.

I know the main goal is finishing 3.4, but I don't know what specific things need to done, and other than the OpenFL 4 planning that Justin is doing offline, I don't know what else is being worked on right now.  Ignoring the version number change on June 29, the last change to Stencyl was on June 13.

@Vectrex71, The intention of that topic was to convince Stencyl to update their documentation and the PR services. I know you want Stencyl to become open source, but its not happening. The company is not shutting down. The software price is not becoming cheaper.  So please stop trying to direct the topic on different paths.

I love Stencyl, I just think it needs more PR.  This topic was not intended to discourage Stencyl path, but rather to encourage Stencyl path
What LIBERADO is correct and truth : Stencyl really has a lot of potential, it only needs boost. So, please, more support and promotion.
Peace

Then you got plenty of options where you can go if you are not happy with Stencyl :) Though i must remind, that many of most successful iOS games are currently made with engines lot more expensive than Stencyl.. For example BuildBox which was used for Color Switch costs five times more than Stencyl.. Construct 2 is cheaper if you only made games that won't make any money.. Personally i think that 199 dollars is fairly cheap for whole package and i'm also very willing to pay it in future if Stencyl can keep up with the openFL developing cycle..

For you Vertex better option would be to just use plain OpenFL and Haxe for you game development, it's free so you don't need to wonder about paying.. I personally see that Jon/Stencyl got every right to make us pay for this nice tool..

I'm agreeing with most of what has been said. Stencyl is great, and its ease of use actually sets it apart from most of its competitors, but users need to know what's going on. The more active the team behind Stencyl are, the more trust people will put in it.
Current Projects:
The Grand Grimoire Chronicles Episode 1 now on Kongregate!.
I always appreciate useful feedback. Thank you.

Hi guys.
I'm using stencyl more than a year , and made my studio subscription about 4 months ago.
My experience; Stencylpedia is limited, video tutorials are limited.
Forum is only source of knowledge that is not basic. But searching for solution in post few years old is not  what I would like to pay.  Same post many times but solution  not in stencylpedia?
Running old version and found out that update is out few months, updating the software and 2 days after that new version is up without notifications?  pop-up, e-mail?

Stencyl is great , it have great potential. But enemy newer sleeps ;)

Question for DEV; in how many years stencyl as a tool would be able to clone Pokemon GO?  And is that answer good enough for your subscribers.

I am not a coder. I love using Stencyl. It allows me to perform incredibly complicated tasks in 1/10th the amount of time that "normal" programmers take. I have been an indie developer as my full time job for ~18 months now and Stencyl is the reason I could accomplish that without any computer science background.

If someone feels like teaching me how to code, I will gladly fix any of these issue people are having. However, I highly suspect that it would take quite a long time to teach me the proper coding knowledge that I would need :)

With mdotedot's new camera work, I could clone Pokemon GO now. If you feel like giving me the $35 million usd that Niantic had budgeted to make Pokemon GO, I will make the game for you.

I completely agree. I would gladly pay even more for Stencyl if it would contribute to hiring a PR rep. I didn't bring up the Admob thing in order to bash Stencyl. I only said it because it should have warranted a response from someone.
