Can you use Art Rage to make your game art? I know there's a lot of specialist that create graphics I was just wondering if you could use Art Rage to create your character art? I heard it's easier to use than Photoshop.

Art rage is a great program, and their free started edition is pretty complete, but it's really more of an illustration program. It's not easy to make characters with a defined outline and it doesn't support animation.

It's easier than Photoshop for painting mainly because it is more focused on that and it has great brushes and color blending.

It is a great program for painting backgrounds and character portraits, but I would stay away of using it for making the actual characters to be used in the game.

What would you suggest for a Mac user then?

I would recommend Photoshop or GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/), which is free, since they can be used to make the most different kinds of images. I've also heard people use Fireworks, I've never used it, but it kind of looks like a simpler version of photoshop, so that may be the way to go.

I Think that you should just pick a program and just stick with it for at least a week and try to learn it as best as you can and see how far you can get. That will give you a good idea of what you can do with it.

I use photoshop all the time, so I'd be happy to answer questions specific to that

And I use GIMP all the time (though I need to upgrade to the latest release), so I'd be glad to answer anything about that.

I can help with GIMP too if you want.

There are no impossible things. There is only lack of skills.

GIMP is much like what I have already in Pixelmator. Pixelmator is the Mac version of Photoshop.
