[WIP] Not By Sight (Last Update: 12.19.2012)

Hello all,
I finally got a working pre-beta version of my game (http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/15441) up (it's only 3 levels long right now). I'm hoping for some constructive feedback/criticism on it. Specifically:
  • How is the speed of the player? Should he move faster/slower?
  • How is the difficulty so far? Are you restarting too much?
  • Should the light at the end be bigger/change sizes more/etc.?
  • Should the level text be boxed or anything?
  • Any other comments/concerns?

Since I'm requesting help, I'm also willing to give it. Although it's only a few levels long, there are some intermediate-level codes being used, such as the curved tiles and the text drawing methods. If you want to know how I did something, just ask :).

EDIT (11.12.2012):
Now up to 5 levels, which will likely form the entirety of the first phase of the game. I scaled back the difficulty a lot as well, especially the dying from white walls (now you slow down drastically before hitting them).

EDIT (11.13.2012):
Added some sound and an opening screen.

EDIT (11.23.2012):
Major update; it's now at its complete 10 levels (was never intended to be a massive game). It's still in development, especially with the sounds and dialogue (particularly the end of level 5, which will explain the reversal that happens), as well as the difficulty curve.

EDIT (12.19.2012):
Another major update. I overhauled the game system to fix bugs and make it almost impossible to die during the first part... but possibly TOO easy to die in the second part. Basically everything was redone from the inside.

Thanks... any suggestions for improvement?

BTW, I plan to add voice-overs so that the instructions will be more prominent (since I know not many read even short instructions...).

What would the help button show? If you want to see the instruction part again, just need to press space/enter or click again :) (I should have added that in the instructions  :-\ )

Does it matter where I am from? I prefer to remain "The Unknown One"...

EDIT: BTW, is the sensitiveness of the maze good or bad?

is there a "hold shift" on the instruction?
player always use the arrow key, without knowing that they need to press and hold the shift key, before they navigate .....

Not in the in-game instructions. I'm going to look into adjusting the speed a bit.

Nice concept =) I liked the old "analog" style noise for visibility. I suggest you add a lil in game context to amplify your ambience. Even a good old text custscene would do it ; Explain the rules and story for 5-10 sec then start.

This is a good maze game idea overall =)

Im also looking for testers and feedback for my new project, Its on the chat forums, in the game announcements, Check for Last Xenos ZX.

Thanks for the feedback. There are sounds on their way. Once I add them in, will be updating the game again. I will probably add in a quick text/voiced introduction as well.

My main concerns at this point are: Was it fun? Did it get repetitive?

Will try to look at your game too ;). Beware, I'm a harsh grader.

UPDATE:

I just added in some background sound to help with the atmosphere, as well as the opening scene with the first two names added into the credits.

UPDATE:
I doubled the number of levels to 10, making the game complete in that sense (there will only be 10 levels total). I also did some more sound work. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you :).

Thanks for the feedback. I just updated it to hopefully take care of the issue.

It took a long time, but the game is updated yet again. I'm working on the sounds, especially the voiceovers, but the game part is mostly done. I overhauled the entire system. It's almost impossible to die in the first part... but perhaps TOO easy to die in the second part.

I appreciate any/all constructive criticism :)
