Without a doubt, it's Manic Miner & Jetset Willy. These games pushed the computer to the limit using incredible programming skills and ingenuity by the programmer, to eke out every last byte of memory. They could be played for hours and hours

Both games were created by one young man in the heyday of home computing. To a certain extent, tools such as Stencyl (and also hardware such as the Raspberry Pi) have brought those exciting days back to us.

Just... one... more... go!

DooM II

It's a symbiosis of several very talented geeks - combining programming excellence, breakthrough design and gory art. I'm still playing it at times up to today (online client -> http://zdaemon.org/).

I just picked up shadow of the colossus hd for free on psn, missed it the first time round and it's truly excellent :)

However, had a hands on with 'the last of us' last night.

Quite frankly, best game ever.

(also Okami HD another I missed first time).

Fallout 2 | Gothic 2 - best RPG
Counter Strike | Quake 3 - best fun for lan

Didn't buy GoW : Ascension so I couldn't play Last of Us :( Pre-ordered it a while ago though .. I'm downloading Shadow of the Colossus now and playing Demon's Souls and Okami HD. I love Playstation Plus !

As I am little bit older and started with computer games in the early 80's, my all-time favourites are:

- Knight Lore on ZX Spectrum (I love this ISO style!)
- Mission Impossible on C64 (with a speech sample!)
- Elite on C64 (Vector graphics and over 4000 planets to explore)
- The Hobbit on the C64 (one of my first adventure games)
- Ultima I...III on the Apple ][

Apparently, I have much more games I love, like Kalistos "Cogito" and "The Tinies" or all Infocom Adventures

At this time, I also started to write my own games, mostly in the Ultima-style or graphic adventures.
Sure, my games won't get better with all the new features of Stencyl.
But I do have more fun creating bad ones.

Phew! I thought I was gonna be the only one saying games that were out before some of the people here were born :)

I spent a stupid amount of playing Jet Set Willy, mapping and typing in pokes from magazines to remove things like the dodgy blocks on the Banyan Tree!

Another game I loved was Paradroid on the C64.

and in the arcades, I spent loads of money pumping coins into R-Type instead of being in college.

That's my current Stencyl training project, a simple remake / cover of Paradroid :D

Defo interested in seeing that when it's finished!   :)
I hope you are doing the AI laser beam battle bits where you logically fight to take over the droid?

Yep, will do. I try to resemble the game as much original as possible.
As it is not planned to release it one day, I am using the original assets  :)
