So, the just of all this is... we still essentially need a mac / access to one ?

For certain aspects of the process, yes that is the case. It should be noted that this is a restriction that's enforced by Apple and there really isn't any way to circumvent that.

You need a Mac or access to one for setting up certificates and uploading an app to iTunes Connect. Everything else can be done on a PC.

I've a PC and no plan to buy a Mac near term. Looking forward to try istencyl out. Looks like the only obstacle is the last piece which is submitting to store.

This is so much more flexible than the other gamemaker.

I mainly use a PC, but now that I know I needed a Mac, I decided to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on one of my Dell computers. Would this installation be able to run iStencyl or would there be a problem?

This is info I extracted from this thread:

For publishing: "Application Loader requires a minimum OS version of Mac OS X 10.5.3."

For using SW, you can use PC all the way through until the last step.

If you understand stencyl workflow well enough, I think it will not take much time to port your flash game to ios.

That's fine.

I saw someone with an iStencyl Pro Subscriber thing above their avatar! That is such a tease to all of us who can't sign up and use it! :)

Give me one right now! They keep teasing us for weeks now and I've not seen istencyl part 3 yet.

I've to say that avatar looks much more powerful compared to my apprentice level. It's also a much better looking design compared to other gamemaker pro logo.

That's because they're a pro.

Hmm, being able to run iStencyl on mac and pc doesn't seem to be the problem.  The problem seems to be the requirement of a MAC for a very important step that keeps getting overlooked.

Let me pose another question :

On a PC, if I was to say, create a partition, and install the MAC OSX, can I then set up certificates and then upload an app to iTunes Connect, all on a PC both running Windows and MAC OSX ?

the Dev certificates and itunes connect, are they tied to specific MAC hardware, or can they run in the configuration listed above ?

I think it works, since you're running MAC OS X. Am I wrong, people?!

The certificates are not tied to any specific hardware. Once you create the certs (requires a Mac to create) you can then export .p12 versions of the certificates using Keychain Access and use them on any machine. The .p12 versions are "portable" certificates.

For iTunes connect, the only thing you need a Mac for is to use the tool "Application Loader" it's the only way you can upload your game to the iTunes Connect. The rest of the iTunes connect process is done on the website, which you can do through any browser be it PC or Mac.

So, even on a PC with MAC OS installed, I still have to have an actual MAC ( or access to one ) in order to generate the dev certificates.  That's so annoying, moreso, because it took me 10 months to save enough cash to buy my last Macbook Pro only to have it completely destroyed 2 weeks ago in a water based accident.... :(

If you can install Mac OS on your PC and run it, that would effectively be the same as running it on an actual Mac. Hardware is irrelevant I think.

I hope so, thanks for all your help.  Wish I'd be able to get some dev. feedback or better still, istencyl so I can test all this stuff out asap.. :)
