When I make my actor in paint and upload it to stencyl why is there still a white box surround it? and how do I get rid of this?

You have to save your picture to .png that can handle transparancy. Or when you import your actor into Stencyl choose the white color to be transparent.

That will sometimes leave a few white pixels around your actor as well. Best way to do it is, as you said, exporting as png with transparency.

I did, save my artwork as a png file though but when I import it into stencyl it has a white background :( Though I can't figure out how to do the transparent background on paint, any ideas?

Right after importing the png into stencyl, before closing the preview window, you would click on the white space in the picture to get rid of it. This works mostly for pixel art;  it wouldn't make anti-aliasing look good, so making the png itself transparent would be better if you aren't doing pixel art.

To get a transparent background on the png itself, I would suggest downloading a different program to do art in, such as Gimp, which is free, since paint can't create transparent backgrounds as far as I know.

I use photo shop for a lot of my needs and it works really well. But that one you have to buy. Just a suggestion.

Oh and you can edit that in pencyl after you import just grab the wand set tolerance to like 20 and remove the white that way. I've done that a couple times as well
