I don't know what I am going to do in the future, I love making games. I've been making them since I was 14 years old. I do know that I have many, many years to get back into it. Just right now, I have to grab life by the balls and get over it.

I don't know what it is you want to do as a career. But, I think one thing worth considering is that you'll have more freedom to make the games you want to make if it's a hobby. I don't see much of a difference between game makers and artists, writers, etc. If you're supporting yourself, and you have found a formula that works, it could be hard to stray from it. Of course, if game development is the one thing you really want to do, keeping it as "just a hobby" would be difficult to accept...

Lots of valid points: I'd have to agree with Riki82 and Rob1221...

Riki82 point - Agree, Media helps with visibility but ultimately I believe to generate any 'great' numbers (thousands)- it needs to get featured by Apple in one of their categories.. either the weekly lists or other features.  That or get lucky and have a big time YouTuber or Twitch cover your game.

Difficulty is tough to gauge.  Some games that are very simple and get featured can be incredibly difficult.  But becuase they are featured - people are curious to at least try them for a few rounds.

Rob1221 brings up an interesting point that I completely agree with and just recently plan to implement in a new game of mine..

I skim the weekly featured lists all the time for past year or two.. Recently, I noticed every game that gets featured will have things that you 'unlock' or 'earn' --- more so then just competing for points on a leaderboards.. give's the player reason to keep going (not everyone is extremely competitive for score)...Simple unlocks too as Rob mentioned.

It's a strange and unpredictable marketplace.  I saw your game got mentioned in a TouchArcade article so I figured it'd do very well.  There's still time , Apple may feature it!  All your games always feel very polished - maybe for this or next project - focus on things to unlock and maybe it'll be the next one to go viral!  Good luck

Also - you may want to look into a publisher as a last ditch effort if numbers still don't pick up.  I know the much hated Ketchapp does things like that.. You obviously split profit but they have thousands of followers to their games so I'm sure it'd get a lot more visibility.  But I'd wait a little while to see if numbers pick up at all with features or updates.

I think the image a lot of people are getting is that I'm quitting game developing because I'm depressed Worp didn't get an Apple feature. Which is false, while I'm unhappy Worp didn't do as well as I thought it might have in terms of downloads and finances I couldn't be more proud of Worp. The attention from press around the world has helped Worp receive over 1000 downloads in a matter of 3 days, a feat that took Mr Tart 3 months to accomplish. I've received attention from Touch Arcade, Pocketgamer, AppSpy, as well as many other review sites around the world.

I'm pausing game developing for an unknown amount of time, even to me because I want to go to college. I want to study Computer Science, I want to work somewhere that makes me happy unlike my current $9 an hour job. I don't want to serve prune juice to old people all my life. I want to program professionally for companies that work to make their employees happy. The college I plan on attending, George Fox has recruiters from Apple coming to them every year in search for Software Engineers. 80% of Software Engineers at George Fox have a job before they even graduate, 100% have a job out of college. This is something I really want to do with my life. I just can't do it with my current debt. I need to pull a rather large student loan, something that takes a good credit score as one of many factors. My parents won't co-sign, in fact I've payed for almost everything I've ever wanted my entire life.

So in order to further myself, to create a better future for myself, I have to get rid of as much debt as possible in a matter of two weeks. If a miracle did happen, if Worp or another game of mine helped me pay at least 75% of my debt back I wouldn't hesitate to continue game deving. It's one of my greatest passions regarding hobbies alongside photography and Guitar. But sometimes things like this happens in life.

I hope that makes sense. I'm not doing it out of depression, I'm doing it because I need too.

Well I checked out your game, it's very well made.. Clean and simple.  Polished, nice complimentary sounds.  It is a bit difficult but honestly would rather have a challenging game then one that's too easy.

Also saw it was released on May 22, this past Friday... Apple updates Feature lists on Friday, which I would think that means your game wasn't ready in time.  Hopefully it'll get some recognition this week!

My feedback about difficulty -  if you want to make game easier, keep the Circle max size and maybe slow down the projectiles some .. then after like 20 points start having it get smaller and bigger, faster projectiles, etc. like it defaults now right from start.   Other then that - I enjoyed it.

I've actually got an update I hope fixes the difficulty, it's a quite  a bit less random and the difficulty ramps up better.

Well good on you for committing to college. I hope (and think) it'll lead to a great job where you can do game dev on the side if you want.

I've played it after the update, and the game seems to be less random now and more enjoyable.
The problem with the ad colony and my ipod touch still persist... but I noticed that sometimes you show another video ads with a "skip" button that works!
What is it? Chartboost reward video or something else?

Good job anyway!

For Admob? You just select video when configuring your ads on admob

Hi max, first of all ..Great Game!!

I have only played the android version (my max score is 112) and i have to say that this game has so much potential.. here are my suggestions:

1. I've played it some time and i didnt see any adcolony video ads when "watch and ad to continue"... only admob videos, and admob videos dont pay per completed view so you are earning zero for those videos... i would implement something different...

2. You only show admob videos when you die, in my experience regular interstitials work better in that situation, maybe you could use chartboost interstitials...

3. On android it's legal to use chartboost more apps ads, i would suggest that you add it because it's another source of revenue.

4. Related to point 2, i would increase frequency of ads, and use both admob and chartboost interstitials (not videos)..after some deaths an user may be interested in playing another game for a while and you could get some revenue from chartboost interstitials. And admob interstitials are cpc model so i would also use them because users may click it...

5. You could also earn some more money from it if you put in the forum or in some websites the source code as a  template for reskinning like games on chupamobile and other websites.

The game is really smooth, and the balls movement is also very smooth , do you use the smooth-motion extension? could you share what numbers do you use for the blocks? Because you are having very good results xD

Hey Luis,

Thanks for the suggestions however,

I'm pretty aware of how several ad companies work. I choose to remove Admob because I don't want Worp crashing at startup on low end Android devices. iOS has them because I know all iOS 7 devices, including iPhone 4 could handle loading Chartboost, Admob, Adcolony, and Gamecenter on startup.

Additionally, Admob pays per click and has so far earned me a lot more than Adcolony due to Worps low download/usage rate.

Worp does have Chartboost, it should show up when there's ad fill. Otherwise, Admob will take it's place.

I don't feel like spamming my games with things like "more apps".

I'm not going to hand my IP out to people to reskin and make money off my hard work.

I use velocity blocks mostly for ball movement and I work on managing my memory to keep my frames per second at around 60.
