If you want I can write how to achieve this effect with gimp. It's quite simple and fun.

I'd be very interested. The artwork is great!

Thank you so much!! Glad you like it.

Well to achieve the glow effect here is what you can do:

1.  Open in Gimp any shape/picture/art you have
2.  Select Filters --> Alpha to Logo --> Neon
3.  Choose the background and neon color
4.  Done!!

There are so many other cool Filters in Gimp, so many possibilities...
It is just fun to test stuff there as well.

Nice! I was looking for something to get an effect like Hyphen uses. I've been pulling filters off of the gimpchat forum for a while.

Lately I am polishing the game before the so much dreamed release.
One of the things that really took me much time in these days was the creation of a simple instruction for Defendo.

At first, in my sketches (in the attachment), I thought it wold be a great idea to have something static, but when I created it in Stencyl it just did't feel good.
So I deleted all my previous ideas and started to focus on what is important in an instruction.
Simplicity and behavior as in the real game was the answer.

So after some work here is the outcome.
A "fake level" with explanatory text. Nothing more.

Now when I look at it It feels much better.
I am curious how well the message will reach the players.

Check the video below:

So its a tap game? I couldn't tell exactly from the video, but it seemed like the objects were clicked on with no control over the heart-orb-thingy.

Yes exactly. The  experience is different when you have the game in the hands.
I gave it to test to some people and it didn't took them much time to understand the logic.

I wanted to show a video as it was the quickest way to show the progress.

Could you have the red triangles in the background moving a little bit faster? I think it would provide for better depth perspective.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I am pretty happy of the speed of the game.
The triangles are just a background, the floating islands and the path of Defendo make you feel the true speed of the game.
You will be  happy to know that the game gets more difficoult level after level and also the speed increases.

Cheers!

It is unbelievable that I feel I am almost done with Defendo.
I have changed many small/big things like game stats, pause menu, sharing, game modes etc.
All those changes to make sure the game has the highest quality possible at release day.

There are still many things to do but I see, that today, I am in much different position then one year ago.
Here are some gifs from  the first levels.

Level 9

This is a normal level where you have just to survive to the Safe Zone.

Level 10: Challenge

In the Challenge level you need to survive and also destroy all targets in the Scene, here 50.
There is a counter in white on Defendo to check how many targets are left.

The tweaking is getting me closer to the end, it is incredible how many small problems you can solve in a couple of hours.

Here is a clean working Main Menu.
I am thinking to do some minor change to the background, still I am very happy with the result.

I find your game pretty sleek!

But I think it's a bit disturbing that the background (the small triangles and the kind of clouds) moves at the same speed than the camera, thus remains static on screen. At the same time, it looks to be like that on purpose, so maybe the player just get used to it after a while.

All the rest looks great!

That game is definitely looking good. Better and better every time I see it :)

Atrium, Ceosol, thank you so much for your support and nice words!

Natrium, yes it is done on purpose as I did not want to have too many moving things in the scene.
In Defendo you need to focus on the moving shapes so that's why the decision. Still thanks for your feedback

I always liked Stats.
Maybe it isn’t the core element of gameplay, still it is nice to see some interesting figures of the game you like to play.

Also I believe that when you sell a game you should add things like stats, mini games, achievements to increase the value (perception not price) of the game. So that’s why I created them.

Oh, and of course it’s fun to do.

So now I will show how the stats scenes will look like.

The first scene is full of empty question marks, when you destroy the first type of any actor the animation will change and show the one of the actor and start to count how many did you destroy.

In the second scene you can see the total points, explosions, time played, mini games score etc.

Both scenes are also important for the achievements that I am currently developing.

I always knew I wanted to create achievements for Defendo.

In the first place I thought about what can achievements give more than some nice gold icons… Points! Yes of course there are some Game Center points, still I wanted to create some “Defendo” ones that would add to the total points of the game.

At the bottom you can see Defendo Score, this will add everything from Game Score to Achievements. Now, when the gamer will open Defendo the first time, most of the achievements are empty as this reflects the empty stats.

Some are already filled with information how to achieve it with the points it will add:

Every time you encounter a new enemy it will appear in the stats but also unlock more information in the achievements:

Stats

Achievements

Grey means that it is still not achieved, it will change to gold once you do.

I am very happy as I have the Game Center Sandbox working and it is uploading the Defendo Score

Still many things are to be added to Game Center, but now I finally feel I am downhill with the Achievements.

October seems a nice month to publish my first game…
