Arcadium - The game

Hey all!

This weekend I attended a retro game event in Holland and after a quick chat with the organizer during the previous event, he asked me to do a live development this time. Happy to get a little bit of exposure for TheIndieStation I said yes, which basically gave me about 6-7 hours to create a frame work for a Top-Down treasure hunter game in which you have to answer retro game related questions, and solve trigger riddles in order to open up new rooms. While doing this, you will get 5 minutes to find as many lost treasures as you can.

Here is a quick peak of what it looks like right now (level wise not much, but the guy needed to have something playable in order to start designing the actual levels.), and tomorrow (or the day after) I will create an actual demo game for on Stencyl Arcade.

Let me know what you think!

(oh, and Donni. Since the dialog extension is working again, I will get back to Space Spector as soon as the guy is designing those final levels ;p)

Nice!!

In-game instruction on the [Enter] key would be helpful.
Personally I prefer Gridbased Movement with this game since I got stuck many times and needed to twiddle with the keyboard to get past walls.

The graphics are also nice!
Great job for ' only ' 6 hours.

Best regards from

Looked pretty good to me! I agree with both of mdotedot's suggestions. z/x seem to be the usual "action keys", so it took some experimentation to figure out [enter] was the correct key to use.

Grid-based movement would've helped me get to the side doors quicker.

I will probably create a mechanic that will tunnel the player towards the correct place in those small areas, or maybe just adjust the collision models =)

Looks good :)
Small comment on art:
The character seems to be blurry comparing it to the background.
Its a detail but i find it disturbing.
Cheers!

So do I haha... but I needed to have at least something to work with and originaly the character was a 32x32 frame size image. But if I would have multiplied the size with 2, it would have been to big. And if I would have multiplied it by 1.5 using the preserve hard edge mode in photoshop it would have looked even worse.

Once this game is ready and starts to "sell" (the game is meant to be monetize in order to support the event and TheIndieStation with a 50/50 split) then I will probably hire an artist to crate a custom character that will also fit the rest better (these were 2 different packs).

yeah. The catch is that my games will not only be placed on random game sites such as NG, but also my own and the website of Arcadium.

@TheIndieStation , No, I don't have that much experience with it, but there is a topic about it in the Stencylpedia: http://www.stencyl.com/help/viewArticle/134
