Well, the way I was thinking about the "cutscene" is that it is very brief and doesn't look any different than normal gameplay, besides the fact that the character moves on its own for a brief moment to knock away a projectile and then boom, gameplay.  Seemless, quick, done and over faster than it takes you to read what I've written here.

That is a good idea. I already have some cutscene logic built into the game's behaviors, though I haven't used it yet, so it probably needs some tweaking. Thanks for the feedback :)

Finally wrapping up the animations for the tutorial. Appropriate that one of the last to get done would be the main character's death animation :/
I got a little greedy with frames on this one and it will look different once it's filtered into the game, but I'm still happy with the result

Right now we're trying to clean up the tutorial and place some final touches, and I'm currently tackling our character portraits. Here's a progress shot of where I'm currently at with the player character's moody samurai portrait  :o he's not done yet, but he'll be there soon. Feedback is welcome!
Also want to recognize quickly how encouraging it is to have found the Stencyl community. The support/kindness/lack of vitriol really sets this forum apart. So thank you!

Here's a bunch of tree thumbnails. If anyone wouldn't mind letting me know which drew their eye first, or what they prefer, if any, I'd appreciate it  :)

Okay, we are finally getting to a stage where we can publish something! We have a demo version of the game for people to play--should only take about 10 minutes to play through--and give us feedback. The game file is kinda large, though, so we are looking into the best way to distribute it. We'll post a link once we figure it out. For now, here is my first attempt at a teaser trailer:

Others may disagree, but I find this to be the most beautiful Stencyl game. I love the art style.

Here is a sample of the HUD we are working on. As usual, any feedback is welcome. Our goal was the match the overall aesthetic of the game, so the HUD elements aren't too intrusive, but still communicate the controls and basic info clearly to the player.

Given how stylized everything else looks, the red and blue bars look out of place to me.

Does this seem like an improvement?
