Retro Redux (New Version)

Here's a revamped version of Redux Redux which I'm rebuilding from the ground up.

At the moment there's only one game (biplane dogfight) but new mechanics have been added, such as picking up coins to upgrade your plane, and having to dodge missiles.

Once thing I haven't been able to get right is the HUD. I'm trying to make it look good, but keep it as simple as possible. I wonder if the HUD is needed at all?

Anyway, please let me know what you think, thanks.

PS. I was going to combine lots of games into one like I did with my original version, but that was making the project too complicated. I'm going to make them all separate, but so that  each has multiple game modes.

Added sound effects
Added graphics effects
Particle effects
Work on main menus and other fixes

Still only one game available, but once I'm happy with it I'm going to create variations such as 2vs1 battles.

The Biplane game now has 4 game modes to play. 1 more game mode to come, followed by 5 new games (eventually)

Very nice start.

* Great Intro
* Nice Menu

What I would do is to get the user familiar with the plane/controls before introducing the enemies. In the first couple of runs I thought I was the red plane since it was in the center of the scene. So maybe you could show the green plane first and after a few seconds spawn the enemy?!?
Best regards from

Thanks for the feedback. Added a marker to the player when the game starts. The controls are designed to be simple enough that you can dive straight in, but I'll look at working in some mini tutorial.

Levelling up allows you to move faster.
Good idea about the upgrades, thanks.

I've added powerups (they're only on the '1 on 1 Dogfight' game mode as I'm making sure they're working before I make them global.)

LvLx5 - Multiplies any level up coin you collect
TriShot - Shoot three bullets in a spread
Miniature Plane - Shrinks your plane, (for unknown reasons, this amuses me more than it should.)
X5 - Instantly multiply your score
Target - Destroy all missiles that are on screen, or are spawned during the time the powerup is active.

One of the main bits of feedback I've had is that people want upgrades, so here's a version I'm working on that includes upgrades - http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/36346

There's no gameplay in the above version yet, I'm working on creating the menus and upgrades etc. Press C on the upgrade screen to get some upgrade points.

I'm interested to know what people think of the menu/upgrades system.

EDIT: Added the specials/powerups menu. Next is the awards.

The gameplay is going to be pretty much identical to the version mentioned in my original post (http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/36062) but with gameplay improvements and additions, such as extra game modes.

Tutorial, and 1 playable level added. Lacking sounds, graphics effects and some general finesse.

Where it says 'tap' it means click.

Instructions ARROW KEYS and Z

Hi,
good job.
I wish that the enemy would fly wider turns nce in a while.
I often had the situation where me and the enemy would circle around ourselves where tight and i could not do another move.

Cheers!

Thanks, that was good advice. If you get too close, the enemy now flees to a safe distance and then goes back for the attack. A simple thing, but it's actually made it much more interesting.
