Apple Feature & No. Leaderboard players

Not sure if the question is vague. One of the game I saw that is featured has around 5000 leaderboard players. I was just wondering if the game isn't doing good even after being featured. Is that possible?

I'm talking about Superloop. It's also released by a 'somewhat-popular' publisher 'Umbrella Games'.

I guess it is possible, It is surprising that a featured game that is free wouldn't have more players. The game dose look a tad dull and doesn't have an app preview video so that could be a factor. Other factors could be a Game Center bug that means some scores are not being logged.

Game Center leaderboard numbers are not an extremely accurate reflection of total players, though it does give you a rough idea.

It's entirely possible that a game does bad despite being featured, it depends on the game and many factors associated w it- is the game buggy, does it crash, does it have a good icon, does it have an app preview video, is the game actually any good, etc?

I thought a game wouldn't be featured with stuff like these. I guess I'm wrong. The game crashes a lot on my iPhone 5S. It even resize at times to an extend I just can't play. May be that's one vital reason?

Does App preview video do such a huge difference?

Maybe that has so much people who always play the game in offline mode? This way, their score would never be included in leaderboard and you also won't earn anything from them.

Also regarding the leaderboard player counts, I think I'm wrong. The game jumped from 5k leaderboard players to 18k leaderboard players in two days.

It happens! Most games initially ship with bugs that don't come to light until they're exposed to a big audience, that's just the reality of making games.

App preview videos are p important, though I don't have hard numbers on that. It's just a convenient way for people to see the game in action and make up their mind if they want to bother with it.

The leaderboard thing... I don't know why it is the way it is. Sometimes it takes a while to update and show the amount of players, maybe it's to do w people who play offline, maybe some people never make a Game Center account at all? I've no clue, but it's never completely accurate.
