press z to pickup and punch.. press x to shoot and if you get knocked down tap x until you get back up. use the arrow keys to move up down left and right.. use the mouse if you want or if you have a touchscreen it works.  joystick is on the left, tap the top right half of screen to shoot, tap the bottom right half of the screen to pick up and punch.
collect keys to unlock brown chests to get upgrades to your pirate.  tap the brown chest to unlock a powerup
STAMINAreduces amount of taps to get up and raises your defense
BAG lets you carry more jewels and helps when getting hit by enemies
AMO bag lets you carry another musket and fills your amo
SPEED makes your character faster
ATTACK hit harder..  the enemies get tougher ;)

Starting a game that the goal is to be done in one month!  Mobile and Desktop versions planned.
So far this is what im thinking.
Battle Toads style bash em up, defend your ship and treasure from being pillaged! Characters are made of paper, trying to think of cool things to do with this paper idea.
Im looking for some ideas and input from this awesome stencyl community!

TODO: adding thoughts here... I will update these as I go.  The list will go top to bottom in the order I'm making things.  If anything doesn't sound good.. or a little off.  Please let me know

burn effect with image Api and clear from image
pick up chest and throw it, move around the chest
Create menu with high score, and start menu
dont like this idea Add jumping? Press button.  Move up y so many pixels... that will send up layers... then move y back down..Will he still get hit?
add shadows so you can see they jump

Make pickups shrink when sliding and when the disappear
rotate sword
fix left attack
Figure out how much time should be given and how often
Should things move back and forth like on
Create obstacles, cannon ball.. crate , last, net and end of boat to the right
different stages.. the kids school project generic volcano, a ship, and an island

Mobile features:
relative joystick to move and aim bullet
Ads, banner and full page
Key drops, in game currency to unlock different modes, and skins
Undead night time enemies?  Use time of day to make Skeleton enemies past 8pm?

TRAPS and POWERUPS:
Cannon Balls fall and create holes that you fall in
kraken-tentacles and a squid come up and know out the enemies that are near the edge of the screen.
parrots- parrots fly from across the screen and take out enemies in their path
Monkey- attacks and picks up treasure drops
loose boards- that hit enemy
cannon- place cannon that auto shoots, place in a spot and will fire til end of level
multiplayer.. send in your team to plunder others treasure and add to your global treasure, FB Mobile/Steam leaderboards

Slice enemy when sword death image api... use confetti mechanic but 2 pieces

Torch pickup

Add enemy to pursue player. Add boolean that switches when enter region of player to pursue,
add treasure pickups when enemy dies, add to bag when picked up (create bag) use firefly life bar from huck n barrel to show when full.. try and make life bar look like a loot sack... take to chest to add to score..
Create run away with treasure animation when you lose all treasure.. viking takes chest and runs away... you lose
Enemy life
Press enter to empty your bag into the chest, and pickup power ups
Added timer to see if i like it
Added high score
animation for throwing treasure in chest from player

change enemy life to life bar

add attacking and life of player
 when Enemy hits player, jewels fly and bag empties... when bag empty and hit, player falls and gets stunned




BUGS: Feel free to report bugs and weird things.. keep in mind that I am updating this as i go, there will be bugs :p i will try and list the things i know about here.
FIX chest runs away when 0 treasure.. no matter if theres an enemy to carry it away
FIX Can have sword and gun at the same time
FIX (hopefully) haha, Play the correct animations for the player

VIDEO SECTION: Place where i will put art and video for paper pirates



Rough video up now. shows the player, red, and the enemy, blue,  attacking is done and the score is based on how much treasure you have at the end... the enemy steals your treasure, (the squares shooting up from your chest), the chest is orange,  if it all gets stolen, you lose!

If you wanted to get really sophisticated with the graphics, you could have the game scene take place in a diorama . As paper characters get damaged, they get bent and cast irregular shadows against the backdrop.

I really like that idea!  i was going to make a pirate ship... there can be a few different stages.. the kids school project generic volcano, a ship, and an island.. i like the idea of it being in a diorama and like a school project!

In case you didn't know, or know something better, the free tool 'Spriter' is pretty handy for making animations, especially if the body parts are put together separately.

Nice! I did something a while ago where I cut out stuff from old magazines and newspapers. It was only a little project during a family visit, but one day I'd really like to make a game like that. In case you didn't know, or know something better, the free tool 'Spriter' is pretty handy for making animations, especially if the body parts are put together separately.
I was going to use a character atlas, separate body parts,   I havent looked into Spriter, i was thinking about going this route

ill try it out.  :) im making simple animations for this game. may be easier to use spriter to begin with

new build, life for enemies added..and some other things.. what do you think of the bag?  itll look better when done.. i mean the mechanic of filling the bag with treasure and taking it back to the chest...  ill add if you get hit some treasure falls out, if no treasure you get stunned if you get hit.  thoughts?
what should the score be.. amount of treasure of the time you spend before the chest gets taken... whats the goal?

Sketch of the pirate looks pretty cool :D

I played the latest update and I'm not sure if I'm attacking right. It seems half of the time my hits don't have an effect.
