Multi-touch detecting release when sliding off key

Hi I have multi-touch directional controls working great however, if a player slides their finger off the button while keeping contact with the device screen, it no longer detects release and the button becomes frozen down until it is pressed again.

Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior?

Never worked with that but I think setting a bool to true while that button is held down and use that to keep it active?

Have a look at the onscreen button behaviour that ships with stencyl, it deals with it using a drag event.
