About Feed My Zombie
Feed My Zombie is a Cut the Rope style of game coming soon to iOS devices. Drag your finger across the chain to break it and deliver fresh brains to Om-Zom, the zombie! 30 levels of zombie feeding action are coming with the first release. More levels coming every few weeks!

I had originally made a flash demo of this game a little over 5 weeks ago, which in turn got me a spot as a beta tester for iStencyl. Without that opportunity and all the help of Jon, this game would still be on the backburner for me. I can't thank him enough!

What has Changed since the Flash demo:
I remade this for iOS devices from the ground up. I wanted to address a number of things that were bothering me (and others) with the Flash version. The two biggest complaints were the lack of on screen tutorials and the chain anchor that had to be pushed rather than dragged. Those were the first things to fix. Now you see a nice little on screen hand animation along with some text hinting at what to do in the first few levels and whenever a new gameplay mechanic is introduced.

In terms of gameplay, I tried to create a few things different from Cut the Rope to keep it interesting. The trailer only shows off a few of the levels, I wanted to keep them a surprise for the actual release.

Also, the graphics have been totally redone. I liked the juxtaposition of the cartoony and bold actors against a grungy background, so I kept that general look. I had to teach myself Illustrator in the process because it wasn't something I was too familiar with. I also went ahead and removed the blood stained walls of the menu backgrounds from the Flash version. I wanted to keep it at least somewhat kid friendly (as much so as a zombie-eating-brains would allow, that is). Overall I'm pleased with how it looks.

Thanks! I happen to be one of those folks that liked it, haha. I'm pushing to have it ready to submit by tomorrow evening.

Feed My Zombie was submitted to the App Store today. I wanted to submit it earlier this week but I ran into a few unwanted distractions that kept me from doing so. Anyways, hopefully it'll get approved and make it into the store before the break. If not, it's ok, I'm still excited about my first app.

Now I have to finish up the free version and then retool it a little to have a Flash version ready by the end of the month!

Congratulations. I am quite stunned how you were able to pull this off so quickly since istencyl launch.

Can you share a little bit of the hardware/iphone versions you used to make your game and what's your impression of the workflow in istencyl? I can't remember you as one of the original istencyl beta testers and already one game submitted. Wow. Great job. And the trailer looked excellent too.

Hey thanks, I created it using a late 2009 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. I tested primarily on my iPhone 3gs and a borrowed iPod Touch 4th gen. I also got to test on an older Touch (2nd gen I think), but only a couple of times.

I was invited to the beta test a little late in the beta, the first week of November if memory serves me right. All in all it took roughly 6 weeks to make, with all the behaviors done on my own (unlike Bandit the Fox which was more or less a test game based off the Stencyl platform kit with a lot of behaviors coming from the Forge, and only a few made on my own). Overall my experience with iStencyl and the community has been great. It's really intuitive and easy to use, even inserting some custom code into code mode was simple enough. I got some help from Jon a couple of times along the way, but pretty much every question that I did have on how to handle something was already answered in the forums.

That's great info. I hope the istencyl workflow including the publication process (not counting actual game-making itself ) is smooth and streamlined enough for everyone to go through easily. I would like to get my hand on it when I get a chance.

Good luck with your new game and perhaps many more to come.

As with Populate, my sister has an iPhone so I sent her a promo code. I'll fiddle with it this weekend over Christmas and give you some feedback too. Thanks!

ERM4YAK3LRYP <- used.

I redeemed code JM6AT4A7TMNP

I played couple of levels and I say this is very well done! Playing this on iPod Touch and the only thing that annoys me that the game has hard time recognizing when you are tying to move the chains, For example in Stage 4 I keep constantly accidentally cutting them, could you increase the area where it recognizes that the chain is trying to be moved? maybe make the top rings of the chain uncutable? It's annoying to start such a simple levels many times over simply because it recognized the wrong swipe motion.

I think that's been the biggest issue so far, but it's been fixed for the next update.
