Programmer Required for RPG Platformer

I've been struggling for several weeks to successfully create an RPG Platformer.  I've already implemented player movement, jumping, and a "switch character" function, but I'm still having trouble with attacks.  Essentially, I'd like the attack button to perform a different type of attack (melee, projectile, and vertical) depending on which character is active.

You could create a game attribute (number or text would be best) depending on the active character, and have the effect of the button actor trigger different attacks depending on the attribute's value.
