Link updated with a more easier to access website.

Changelog 0.1.1:
-Attacks can now slow/hasten your ship depending on weapon
-Hit effects are shown when enemy ships are hit
-Improved 2nd weapon
-Game now starts with the 2nd weapon [temporary]

I've been working on effects and crosshairs these past 9 days but I feel like it doesn't justify a new update yet so there won't be any for a while.

Best I  can do for now are screenshots. With the crosshairs I've tried to replicate how crosshairs work in modern fps(es) where the crosshair will grow bigger and shake while you're shooting. I got the shaking part working unfortunately I can't say the same for the "growing/shrinking" part because I couldn't get it to work without the grow tween bugging out.

Decided to polish up the title screen of the game. I'll probably add more flair and effects in the background like explosions and what not.  As I said earlier, I found a way to make .gif files. Sorta laggy though

Next step is adding an intro at game start and after that some polishing to the GUI side then some bug fixes before I release a new version.

Hi,

i tried it and would like to share some thoughts.
Overall it is fun and i enjoyed. I wish you would advance the controls of the ship though.
I am sure you need acceleration and slowing down (slowly geeting faster - slowing down once you are not pressing a key anymore). Right now its too binary. Either moving or not at same speed.
It will make the game more fun and a bit more challenging.

Very detailed: Press any key is not true in start screen. Space for example doesnt work and i wish all inputs work with mouse because you use it playing anyways.

Thanks for the feedback, Bombini!

As for the movement, I could add more complexity to the movement by adding a "dash" option for the ships by double pressing a movement key. This could be a good addition as some attacks are too sudden or too wide for the default movement speed to dodge on time. I'll see what I can do more to improve regarding this.

Finally getting the game's background animated and looking decent. All of it is purely random(except for the base picture files) thanks to how decent and amazing the image API is and there's no hint of slow-downs whatsoever as long as it's not making 100+ image instances per millisecond(you can I think but you have to remove them quickly to avoid hanging).

Next step after this is a decent intro to introduce the player into the game along with a tutorial of some sort.
Let me see if I can draw letters one at a time to form a sentence. I don't think the dialog extension can do what I want to achieve.

It's looking good. What other mechanics are you thinking of implementing? There's a quick and easy method of creating a typewriter effect by using the  'part of (text)' block.

NUMBERS & TEXT > TEXT > FIND/REPLACE

Use a number attribute that increments by 1 at whatever speed you want.

Haven't updated this thread in a while since I was gone for some time so I couldn't work on it.
I've finally finished the intro (a little bit rough in some parts I admit).
Give it a try and tell me what you think.

Changelog:
-Improved 2nd weapon (the one you start with)
-adjusted sound volume for enemy leaks
-added a custom cursor and crosshair.
-improved PHASR (the one you start with) weapon by adding a charge attack and added some effects to it's charge attack.
-Added a title screen
-Added an intro scene at start, tutorial still in the process of making.
-Added backgrounds for both game scene and title scene.

If you want to make your game can't pass the judgement of
newgrounds, do this:

Progress so far:
-Revamped 2nd enemy type's behavior due to how shoddy the old behavior was and causing game breaking problems
-Working on particles as a substitute for a "charging" animation. Working well so far however I couldn't "perfect" where the particles would go and causing the particle direction to go in a way it's not supposed to. I guess the players won't notice unless directly told about it.

Also in the process in improving the HUD by showing the player how long it takes for the current weapon equipped to "level up".

Also noticing some slowdowns when firing the homing-type weapon. Is it perhaps when spawning lots of actors in quick succession nonstop causing slow downs? I noticed that might be the case because when I stop firing it, the slow downs vanish almost instantly. Might look up more on this later.

Added a new HUD feature where XP progress for weapons to level up.
I wanted it to go from down to up but this works I guess.
