Zame Particle Extension

The particle system uses files created by a Particle Editor.
One editor that I've succesfully used: One By One Editor

Both Image and Particle File (json/plist/pex) should be in the extras folder.

Important:

  •   The color layer is removed in order to display the particles. You can still use backgrounds as far as I can tell.
  • Put files in the ' extras ' folder

You can change the particle image with a block.

See for placment: Image & Extras folder help

Could have issues with Device Scaling (You might need position recalculations)

Oh wow!
This is awesome!  Performance is better vs a bunch of actors?  Does it work on mobile?

Thanks for the replies.

Performance vs actors? Normal actors shouldn't be used for particles. Minimal actors or images might do the same job. I don't know if minimal actors are hardware accelerated but as far as I could tell the OpenGL stuff that is used in the library are hardware accelerated.
The calculations needed to do the same with minimal actors or images are not in my reach. I'm no mathmagician. I simply do trial and error and let the hardcore math do by cleverer persons.

Yes it run on all targets

It should work now.

Ah, cool. I'd seen your extension while I was on holiday on my phone - on the beach!!! Was excited to give it a try when I got back home.

Nice extension ....I did manage to get it working in Stencyl and was wondering whether it is possible to launch the Zame particle on a specific layer. Right now it takes the x and y co ordinates and shows the particles at the front.

Thank you for your  interest.

The extension works with native drawing calls of which stencyl isn't aware. I'm not sure if I could let it draw on Stencyl layers.
I need to delve into Stencyl for that. I used to delve into Stencyl for some UI stuff and then another Stencyl version came along which did things differently and breaking the stuff that I was using.
So I'm a bit hesitant to make it work on stencyl layers.

Thanks for the info.
I suppose then attaching the particles to Stencyl actors isn't possible either

Yes, you can let a particle follow a player position. Or any other actor.
It will be drawn on top of everything else. So for instance you can have a dust cloud trail the actor. Like one of the examples in the demonstration game.

Hi !
thank you mdotedot for this work,
I downloaded your extension,  then created a particle.pex with its texture.png and placed in the extras folder of my game.
But now I'm not good enough to know how to show my particles... :(
Could you, or someone else, post screenshots of simple particles event ?
(with the "when created", "when updating"... blocks please !!  ::) )
sorry if this documentation is already available, I didn't found it.
thanx !!!
