keyboard or mouse for shooting?

I'm trying to get deep in this....
 
   keep in mind i'm taking a sidestroke perspective

Have you considered giving the player the option to choose between a key press or a mouse click?

normally if you need to aim with the mouse then shooting with the mouse imo would be easier for the player. if the aiming is just linear for example, a key press can suffice and the game could possibly run entirely using the keyboard.
