Choose actor animations when starting a scene

Ok so basically I have the same actor that's gonna be in a scene twice. Is there a way to choose which animation you want the actor to start off with? For example there's 2 of the same actor -- one on the left, one on the right. Suppose I want the one on the left to be created and have "animation 1", and the one on the right to be created and have "animation 2". Is there a way to choose which animation you can give an actor when placing them in a scene?

I've tried this (example) but it didn't really work:

When created
      If [X of self = 0] and [Y of self = 0]
              switch animation to "1"
      If [X of self = 300] and [Y of self = 0]
              switch animation to "2"

If you are placing them in the scene:
Create a behavior that changes animation when created. Create an animation attribute and change to that animation. Then double click your actors in the scene, go to the Inspector, select "Customize this Instance" (or something like that)  and select the animations individually for each one.

If you are creating them through blocks:
Set their animations immediately after they are created, using the animation name for the actors.
