Death Animation

I'm having difficulty understanding what is wrong and how to fix it.
I'm attempting on having a death animation play for 3 seconds after my character dies. and after the 3 seconds ends, the scene will restart. It is a collision circumstance so i have...

>when 1st actor hits type of actor
>if right side of 1st actor was  hit or left side of 1st actor was hit
>Switch animation to death for self

This is a separate behavior from the actual Death by collision itself.
What i tried different ways of wording it and it didn't do much beside make copies of itself. So i tried doing it that way and it still wouldn't work even by spawning in the new phantom character. Kinda feel at a loss here.
