Oh bum. (First World Problem)

Happy as I am, now I have to figure out which version I'm going to put on the teaching machines.
  • Do I go with safe secure 1.4 (which is the only sensible choice).

or do I put on the more risky but easier to use 2.0.?

I guess it's about timing. It'll have to be on the image by mid February.
Mid-February eh? I think that 2.0 would be a better choice. I don't want to take back words on release dates, but I think that 2.0 will be more than safe to use by then. We've internally been working with it for several weeks now.

Either way, the process will be the same, I imagine?

Although I get to request the software to be included mid February, I have to submit the course outline sooner. Part of that is a weekly run down of each tutorial ... which means I have to work out what's in each tutorial ... which means I have to have a vague idea of how long each bit will take ... which means I have to have a vague mastery of the software!  :D

So I have to lock it in sooner than you'd think.

One thing I cover is State Machines. Obviously Events are better for that, so I reckon it'll be 2.0.

Can we know a bit more about the .exe/.app export
1) Will we be able to test that in 2.0 preview or is it only events for now?
2) Is the .exe export based on flash + AIR?
3) Are these exporting options going to be free?

Thanks Jon,

Looks very exciting. Can't wait to test it all out.

One question - will the if, otherwise blocks still be in there?

Yeah, nothing's going away. We're just making it more accessible. You'll see much more along the lines of this in the next few blog posts. Our goal is to lower the floor and raise the ceilings, and we think Events, combined with some other changes will achieve this.

@ Everybody else, I'll answer your questions en masse in a blog post instead.

The basic tools will remain free as they've always been. Fundamental functionality like Events are part of the basic toolset.

We will be expanding the value delivered by the "Pro" license through an expanded feature list, but this won't involve taking away what's already here, only what we add in the future and for 2.0.
