Wouldn't the beta testers get a head start at his since they've already had the chance to test the editor. Haha. just saying.
We're all in the same game just different levels, dealing with the same hell just different devils.

Concerning the types of resources you can use, I'm willing to bet that yeah, you can use any resources that you have legal permission to, which would include any that have the proper CC license applied (one or maybe two varieties don't allow derivative works, so make sure to check), any resources that the creator has given you personally permission for (like maybe a friend or something), anybody you're collabing with, etc..  But, I wouldn't recommend using work where full copyrights are retained and no permissions are given since that's both illegal and inethical.  That would include ripping graphics or content straight from another source, like using Mario sprite rips or something.

Speaking of, I do have a similar question.  Fanwork in general has always been a legal gray area, and this is true in the arena of fangames and in Stencyl's stance to fangames too.  I didn't even think to ask before, but what about for game jams then?  My Pokepet game is definitely a fangame, is it not allowed as an entry?

hero2bash, they may have some kind of edge, but I don't think terribly much of one haha ^^' .  Any of the beta testers that have used and gained any decent familiarity with Stencyl is probably Expert or Master Stencyler.  There are many beta testers got busy, forgot about Stencyl for a while, haven't used it much, etc..  Like me XD .  I had a hard time with it at first, and it kind of discouraged me from playing more with it until, like, two weeks ago or something.  I'm one step away from being as clueless as the rest of you, and by now I'm sure many quicker and more clever users will already have surpassed what little knowledge I'd gained XD .  Beta testers weren't required to use Stencyl or anything, they just used it if they wanted and gave feedback if they wanted (the beta didn't have strict rules or anything) .

would a game uploaded as a work in progress count if it is fully playable?

Generally, in the past Jon has defined eligible games as ones that are "complete". Meaning, they need to have a clear start and end, include music and sound effects, and no "placeholder" artwork.

Any game that meets that criteria can then be judged fairly and compared to other games (that also meet the criteria) on other factors such as "fun factor", gameplay, presentation, originality, etc.

'Works In Progress' can be submitted if they can be seen as their own whole experience within themselves.  For example, Irock's 'The Binding Force' submission for the last Game Jam is only a 'demo' of the full game he is planning.

Whew, I'm only expert.

Wait, how am I expert.
One of the two expert stencylers to have done precisely nothing to earn their title... Oh damn, he did something and got promoted. I need to get to work. Until then, I'm unique?

after learning i can update a game even if its not a "work in progress" my previous question seems dumb, sorry guys. anyway, the game is called Jumping Beans and you just push differently colored beans into color-coded holes by bouncing the bean that you control at them. other than a highscore table (the rest of the program was so easy to understand, but highscores we can't figure out even after looking at the help section about it) we're about done with it, so i'm posting here to submit it. it's on the "newest" and "staff picks" tabs if anyone wants to try it.

Just want to add some credit: there is music from me for both Blue Box and Up, Up and Away (Opening and Space). I was never directly involved in either, but I'm also figuring it would be best to avoid a mis-credit (I should seriously re-upload all my old tracks that I did for the Great Media Gathering under my own name... plus, that's only a select few anyways!).

The only reason why I'm an Expert Stencyler is that I myself am a beta tester and early musical contributor. I myself have a game under construction that will not be entered into this Game Jam.

Hi all,

My entry into this Competiton: Planetai 2

http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/3387

Its a game about the life of a solar system, you smash asteroids together to make planets, then collide them with coloured meteorites to give them colour. You must protect you planets from further collisions as they may explode!

Game is created as a sequel (original submitted to GGJ2011). The original was created in Game Maker (booo) by a small team. This only takes the concept of the first game, no re-used resources.

Planetai features rendered 3d Graphics to produce a unique and beautiful aesthetic. All assets produced by myself with the exception of music and sounds, which were found online, royalty (and accreditation) free.

I am very new to this program/community having only started using it slightly after release but it must be said it is easy to get the hang of, once you learn the basics. Nothing is impossible, just you may have to bodge a few bits and pieces! :P

Have fun and enjoy! I look forward to playing other submissions.

Hi!  I'd like to enter my game Brocci's Beat Quest into the competition.

I'm sure my game isn't especially innovative or unique compared to the other entries that will soon start rolling in, but I do think it's a seamless & well-put-together package that effectively serves its purpose.  And I'm hoping that I might be able to pick up some puntos for the audio presentation/implementation - which took a lot of work to get the filesizes and bitrates optimized.

Thanks to those who've submitted their entries!

I'd like to know how the other entries are coming along just to get an idea of what and how many we'll be seeing.

I plan on entering my game "CrissCross":

http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/3727

However it's still not finished so don't consider this my final entry

EDIT: Consider this now my official entry.

Try to collect the five keys in each stage while not getting killed by the creatures wandering the halls. Your enemies will also pickup the keys so you will have to fight them to complete your objective.

I'm planning on submitting the game I'm working on called Ricochet, but time will tell if it'll be anywhere close to worth submitting in a week.
