Just tried it with 2.0. I made level 4, saved it and it worked great here.

Make sure you stick Aazor under User Docs/stencylworks/<games> folder (not Program Files)?

Also, what Java version do you have? SW only support java 6 and NOT java 7.

BTW, I love your main character and all the graphics in your game.

Thanks Rob, glad you like it! I'm trying it out with a new game called Bee Eater and started getting the same problem.

My game is saved in the correct place and I'm using Java 6. Attached is an error I get when I try and open the scene "MainMenu" which I created since having the problems. It is always empty/broken when I reload the game in Stencyl.

Can you do several more things for me so that I can post this to team:

1. Confirmed exactly which sw version you are using. Are you using 1.3.4 and updated to 1.4.1. Go to Help -> About Stencylworks to confirm?

2. What is the workspace you are using? Go to File->Preferences->Workspace->Workspace Folder and type in the entry here.

3. What is your win operating sys? xp, vista or 7 etc.

4. Can you post your log one more time? Use Debug Generate logs.

5. Down in User Doc/Stencylworks/scenes folder. Please list ALL the xxx.xml you are seeing.

Please answer all questions above.

1. I'm using the Nightly Build which you linked to in your previous post. Before that I was using the 2.0 beta, and before that I was using various other Nightly Builds.

2. My workspace is C:\Users\Ben

3. I am using Windows 7 64bit

4. This morning's log attached, after a complete delete/reinstall cycle (including prefs file and folder in Users). I opened the fresh install, make some changes to a scene in Drop Block Game, then quit. Those changes were saved. I copied my backed up game, created a new scene, placed an actor and added an event. When I reopened the game that scene was corrupt and wouldn't open. (The game said it was 0 x 0 tiles).

5. I don't have a Stencylworks/scenes folder there but I do have a scenes folder within my game folder there. The files are: 0.xml and scenes.xml. Also, 0.png and 0.scn.

I think that's the folder rob meant. How many scenes do you have in your game? Having only one file (0.xml) sounds like you only have one scene. In the screenshot of the error message you posted above StencylWorks cannot access 1.xml, because apperantly it is not there.

That would be a problem then! I currently have 1 scene and I'm creating a new scene called "MainMenu". It shows up in the game until I close Stencyl, but next time I open it it shows with a little joystick icon rather than an image of the scene - presumably because 1.png doesn't exist either. And when I try and open it, it just says "Opening..." for ever.

So not only it is not saving changes to files, it's not creating new ones either.

Not sure if these have been brought up yet, but are you running StencylWorks as an administrator? And using Java 6?

Hi Joe, the answer to both those questions is yes. The strange thing is it was working fine for ages but suddenly stopped at a random point. The same thing happened with my other game - working fine for a while until some point when it stopped saving changes to scenes.

I've send your log to internal team to look at. The problem is we are able to make scenes, save it and retain all the changes using 2.0 and as such cannot duplicate your problem with your game.

One more request. In your problem game, can you make 3 scenes, save and exit sw. Then navigate down to Stencylworks/games?your_game/scenes and see how many xml you are getting. If I understand correctly, you should see 0.xml, 1.xml and 2.xml

Thanks Joe also for chiming in.

I think we may be on to something...

I created 3 scenes as you suggested, but I have the folder C:\Users\Ben\stencylworks\games\game_name\scenes open and no files are being created. When I press save, scenes.xml is updated (I see the "Date modified" time change).

If I look at the black cmd screen, which I guess is the log, it is saving my actual scenes to C:\Users\Ben\.stencylworks\scenes

My game (and scenes.xml) is in C:\Users\Ben\stencylworks\games\game_name\scenes

There is a '.' character appearing, and part of the directory structure is missing, so basically it is saving all my new scenes to the wrong place, but everything else to the right place.

When I close StencylWorks and load my game, C:\Users\Ben\.stencylworks is DELETED until I create a new scene or delete my old broken ones. It is then created again in the wrong place, empty until I create a new scene. (There are also 2 other empty folders, scratch and snippets)

I know the person who is very familiar with this but I cannot get hold of him.

When you did all the re-install and removed all those Stencylworks folder before (including the prefs file) , do you recall removing this .stencylworks folder also?

I don't remember deleting it but it may not have been there. It seems to delete and recreate itself all the time.

Yes. I noticed that part too. I have already send out your note here to the developer. Hope he will get back to us soon.

For me, I always remove both Stencylworks folder, prefs file and .stencylworks folder when I do a new install.

Make sure you use the window installer version and not zip.

Thanks for all your help, I'll try the deleting thing again tomorrow. I can't wait to get back to working on my masterpiece little game :)

I've found a temporary fix to enable me to continue work on my game - simply copy/pasting the files from the wrong folder to the right folder just before I quid StencylWorks.

Not ideal but it'll do the job for now. Thanks for helping me figure it out!
