Journals / This Game is Trash(Stop-motion, Collectahon, Adventure Game)
« on: September 09, 2017, 10:09:04 am »

This Game is Trash. A claymation collectathon/adventure game with lots of trash to collect, worlds to explore, and friends to meet.

A great smog cloud will cover the sky and kill everyone in a mere 30 days, you must plan each day accordingly if you have any hope of saving the world!

I've been working on it for just over a year and hope to be finished with it early 2018. My goal is to make the game I really want to play, and hope that there are others with similar game interests!

You can follow me @ConorGarity for updates. I would love to have a playable early build soon to give out to anyone interested to hear feedback. Thanks!! :p

Hey, title pretty much says it. Whenever I try to save my game, I get this "Unexpected Problem" error. I've tried deleting all the past few things I've worked on, but didn't seem to help.

I'm not too savvy with this stuff, I as hoping someone who knew better could check out the logs and maybe lead me in some direction, although I'm unsure how much info they'll give...

Thanks so much in advance!

Hello, whenever I try to click on any actors, scenes, music, or whatever else in stencyl, I get the "Unexpected Problem" pop up, then the "opening..." box stays there forever and the component never opens. I have no idea what the problem is, it just started happening.

Before, I sometimes got this pop up whenever I tried opening a background in stencyl, which started happening after I updated Stencyl to the latest version, but it was never with all components until now.

Anyway, I attached logs. Any help would be most appreciated, considering I can't even work on my game until I fix this...

When I click on "details" this is what comes up:

Ask a Question / Saves remaining when updating game?
« on: July 10, 2016, 04:30:03 am »

I was just curious, does Stencyl have a feature, or maybe there is some sort of extension, that allows creators to update their game on websites without erasing any previous save data for players? Does it depend on the website/platform you upload on?

Or does every user's saves always reset when you update your game, i'd imagine there has to be some way...

I have no real idea how this stuff works, hopefully someone smarter than me knows something.

Chit-Chat / Unlockables
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:39:18 am »
Hello all!

I have a general game design question that I am curious about.

In my game, there is gear that players can unlock through doing certain things in the game. I was wondering what your opinions were on whether or not a designer should tell how certain items are unlocked in the game. I believe that with unlocks that change the game or are of major importance, the information to unlock them should be given, but what about less major items, like outfits that players can wear(like hats in tf2), which is the case here. I love the feeling of unlocking a secret that I had no idea was coming, but I think letting players have another goal to work towards is good too. This question isn't really troubling me or anything like a serious problem that's keeping me from moving forward with my game, but I thought it would be interesting to see what some of you would do and any suggestions you may have.

Resolved Questions / Converting Float to Int? [SOLVED]
« on: April 22, 2015, 06:07:49 pm »
Hello all!

I am trying to integrate a website's API into my game and am trying to put it a scoring system. I have a score attribute(that I made with code block), however, when I make a call to the API code, it (the API code) expects an integer value. Since Stencyl seems to automatically make number variables into floating point numbers, does anyone know how to convert that float to an int? I looked around and tried a few things, but couldn't get it working. I could also just create a new variable using code, but that too I am a little lost at. If anyone had any idea how to do any of these(changing types would be preferred!) I would really appreciate it! Thanks :D
Tried using:

that I found on  , but I'm pretty novice at coding so unsure what I keep getting errors when trying to launch game.

Ask a Question / Importing custom preloader help
« on: April 12, 2015, 06:07:33 am »

My game recently got sponsored, but I am having difficulty figuring out how to put the website's preloader into my game. The preloader file they sent me is an .fla file, from what I've looked at it seems this might be impossible to import into stencyl?! Kinda lost, so any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Ask a Question / Squishy Physics
« on: April 10, 2015, 07:10:10 am »

I was wondering how to go about creating an actor that would react and change shape based on the things around it, like for example the player controls a slime and when you hit a wall the parts on the slime all bunch up against the wall. Or like how sushi cat responds to the things he hits and squishes against them before bouncing back.

Ask a Question / Highlighting specific words in text?
« on: January 03, 2015, 11:26:56 am »

In my game there is a character that informs the player about a new obstacle or enemy when he/she encounters it. I have been trying to figure out if there is a simple way that I could highlight (change the color of) specific words in the character's dialog that may be more important than the others. Similar to how the Zelda games always have the word Ganon in a different color than the other words in the dialog. There is probably a super easy solution, I just can't figure it out!

Any help would be AWESOME! THANKS!!  :D

Ask a Question / "Already Purchased" feature?
« on: September 25, 2014, 07:10:25 am »

In my game I have a shop where you can purchase a variety of upgrades and costumes for your character. I want to make it so when you purchase the item, the item will become 'sold out!' and you cannot buy it again. The problem is if you leave the shop and then return later, you will be able to purchase the item again, even though you already have it.

Obviously I can create an attribute for EACH item in the shop that determines individually if the item was bought or not, to fix the problem, but I was just wondering if there was a better way to do this, like perhaps only having one attribute, but applying it separately for each item in the shop. Or something similar.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  ;D

Ask a Question / Cant export game to SWF!?!?
« on: July 21, 2014, 05:38:00 pm »
Hi, I have a problem that I really hope someone can help with.

Ive been working on a flash game for a couple of months and i cant seem to export it to a .swf file. Iv'e been reading the forums and I cant seem to find the problem. I deleted all of my sound files, but the problem persists. Ive included the log files in the hope that someone will find the problem, I've been looking through he log but I cant seem to find the problem. I get the '90% memory usage' message often, and I haven't updated stencyl in a while, I don't know if thats what it could be.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
