Journals / Dawn of Dreams - WIP
« on: September 24, 2014, 09:59:53 pm »
While I'm waiting for my big move to another country, and that of a better pay so that I can fund my artist once again to continue working on Final Warrior Remake, I'm working on a side-project called "Dawn of Dreams".  It's a RPG platformer with some very simple art and logic, as this is just something to get my creative mind loose every once in a while.  Might turn into a big project, or not, who knows.

Anyways, here are a few items/swords/amulets/rings I came up with.  The art itself should tell you just how simple I'm going for :P

Journals / Final Warrior - Remake - WIP
« on: May 07, 2014, 05:23:35 am »
Kind of in a bind since I decided to do a remake of Final Warrior, and reason is that when I redid the art I realized that I also had to do the enemy/boss/hero animations in a new style, but I'm not an animator nor do I have the time to do so - just enough time in my day to do the environmental work.  So I was wondering (and wanting opinions, obviously) about which art direction I should go with; 8bit or the artsy.  Here's a few screenshots of both:

Also, a bit off-topic: if I'm going to do either one, it'd be great if I had some help on this.  I can't really pay much due to my budget, but when I get this new position at another company (hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks), I can pay more (around $300/month).

Thinking about creating a new platformer for some time now, and just recently got around to creating a few environment pieces.

Paid Work / Space Dust - Needs Polishing
« on: February 14, 2014, 12:43:52 pm »
A couple of days ago I tried to publish Space Dust on Desura (a side scoller (i.e. R-Type, Gradius)) and I received a response back stating:

"Hey there I do not think your game is suitable for release on Desura, we get a lot of "side scrollers" and to be honest your game is not all that polished."

To be honest, there are a couple of things that do need to be fixed and I just recently fixed them, after getting this email.  But I still feel that it would be best to get a second opinion or perhaps even better, another dev to take a look/help out.  The game file size is about 28mb, so there's no way to put it up on Stencyl Arcade.  What I'm willing to do, however, is share the file with someone via email/Google Drive instead.

What do you get out of this?  Name credited in the game and 5% share in revenue.  But I will only share with those who have already published quality projects.

Here are some screenshots.

Paid Work / Artist Looking For Work
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:21:51 am »
So, while I'm sitting on my butt waiting for 2 projects of mine to be released (long story, can't make it short), the thought occured to me that I have enough time to spare for other work, such as creating art assets for you peeps.

Now, I'm no character artist but I can create environmental art and any abstract-like monsters.

Below are a few things I came up with for my projects.  My fee would be 5% revenue from any project I have helped with and will only work on such projects that will purchased and not F2P/free.

Ask a Question / Doodad Actor - Animated - Not Showing
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:01:21 am »
I have this actor (shown below) that has 16 frames of animation, and it appears in the Main Menu background.  Reason why I didn't set it as a BG is because the animation would have repeated itself.  But for whatever reason, the actor isn't appearing on screen.  I've already made sure that it wasn't affected by gravity and removed the collision box.

Ask a Question / Stencyl Forge - Toggle Flixel Hotkeys - ARR?
« on: January 27, 2014, 12:51:24 pm »
Ok, so I was looking around on Stencyl Forge for a behavior that would allow me to Pause the game and mess around with the sound, such as muting and changing the volume, and I found such a behavior.  However, upon looking at the coding itself, which is just one Created Event with two "If" statements within and the two Flixel hotkey options (enable and disable).

My question is does this "Behavior" really fall under the ARR even with its simplicity/lack of sustainable coding?  I'd be willing to use it in a heartbeat, for sure, but then I created the behavior myself, same as the author did and works just fine.

EDIT:  Name of that behavior on Forge is "toggle flixel hotkeys"

Ask a Question / Behavior Issue - Radial Shooter - How to Position?
« on: January 05, 2014, 08:18:34 am »
I'm using the Radial Shooter behavior, which can be found in Stencyl Forge, but I'm having this problem where the bullets are originating from either the side of my enemy types and not in the center or at any of the areas that I would want the bullets to project from.  I know that there are angles that I can set, but the problem is that is doesn't look adjusted or right on the screen.

Hopefully the screenshot below can give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Here's what I have set up for a certain item to appear (as shown below):

When Drawing
if [Get Current Score] >= 2000
Show sprite for [Spear]
otherwise if [Get Current Score] <= 1999
Hide sprite for [Spear]

However, on random occasions this actor will appear even when the requirements aren't met!  On the stage that this would happen and then go back to it, the code would work properly.

Paid Work / Need Artist - Final Warrior (Remake) - % of Rev
« on: December 23, 2013, 11:46:19 am »

Looking for an artist to help create the following in a pixel art form, or that of Castlevania: SotN:

1. 12 varying monsters:
  • 4-6 frames of movement
  • 3-4 frames of attacking
  • 4-5 frames of death

2. 6 bosses:
  • 4-6 frames of movement
  • 3-4 frames of attacking
  • 4-5 frames of death

3. Minimal environmental art:

  • Banners
  • Windows
  • Statues

Since I'm already on a tight budget with my other two projects, what I can offer is a contract that will allow the artist to have a certain % of revenue (looking at 20~25%) when we put this game up on Steam.  I'm open to negotiations, of course.

Details on Milestones

I don't expect that this will get done anytime soon, as there will be tweeking of the coding and art from time to time, but I do have a set goal of having this remake released by the end of next Summer.  Sure, it sounds far off from now, but that gives us time to really mold this game into something big, and to research other titles similar to FW.  I am in the process of revising the Milestone chart I had set for myself, in order to allow the additional person to fit right in with the flow.

As described above in the summary, your task would be to create a variety of enemies based on a list that I have typed up and those of which are already in the game (blue knights, ghosts, etc).  I'm open to your interpretation of the monster design and opinions, but please keep in mind that the overall atmosphere I'm trying to create for FW is that of being dark/medieval/fantasy.  Which encompasses a lot of titles out there, but I have listed a few that we should take notes on, though.

How to apply

  • Email address
  • Portfolio (please have more than 10+ pieces to show me, which are relevant to the topic
  • Must have experience in game design
  • Must sign an NDA
  • Must answer:  How many hours can you apply yourself to this project?

About Final Warrior

Originally, I wanted to create an 8-bit adventure game, but felt that there was potential for a more robust version.  FW is already out on Newgrounds:

Play it for however long, just to get a sense of what the game is and what it could be if we were to make it better.  I'm already in the process of revising it, as shown in another topic:,27214.0.html

Resolved Questions / Booleans Not Working Properly [SOLVED]
« on: December 14, 2013, 10:42:44 am »
I'm trying to make this as simple as possible when I have my character colliding with an actor (which kills it and triggers a "true" in the game attribute that I made), and then having a sprite drawn of a copy of that same item on a certain location of the screen.  Whew...  Yea, here are the screen caps of the code.

Game Ideas / WIP - Final Warrior - Update
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:12:19 pm »
As you all may or may not know, I published a game called Final Warrior on Newgrounds, which has garnered some attention and good ratings.  However, I felt that it wasn't enough and this title had more potential.  So I'm in the process of a HUGE update and to bring it over to Steam when finished.  Here are some screen caps of the changes.

Also, I'm open to people helping out with coding and art.  Though I can't pay, I am open to having you sign a contract stating that you will earn a certain % from the revenue when it gets on Steam.

Journals / WIP - Space Dust - Shmup
« on: November 13, 2013, 09:47:19 am »
So, this was more like a side project while updating Final Warrior, but it's kinda grown on me.  It's nowhere near done, mind you, just want feedback.

To put it simply, when the player score reaches 1000 points they will switch to a new animation (new appearence) and that new animation would replace the old one - including the movements as well...

The new animation DOES replace the Idle animation in the "8 Way Movement" behavior, but won't do the same for any of the set directions.  So, how do I go about replacing those animations with the new ones in that behavior?

EDIT:  I've been derpin' too much and figured out the problem...

Paid Work / Looking for an 8-bit Artist - Final Warrior Updating
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:47:16 am »

As you may or may not know, I'm updating Final Warrior every Sunday with some info pages, new monsters, sounds, music, etc.  I've always felt that this game had more potential and would do great, but my artistic skills is lacking and I'm busy with other projects (Downward Dungeon and another app).  So, I would like to have someone else take my place as the artist and, hopefully, recreate some of the art assets, making Final Warrior look more attractive.

I don't have the cash to spare to pay, but this isn't that big of a project and can be considered more of a small side project.  And as such, there aren't any deadlines - save for the updating on every Sunday.

If interested, please let me know via PM.  Thank you for your time.
