Ask a Question / Is there a way to apply a shader to an actor?

As per the title, is there a way to add a shader to an actor? Applying hue to an actor used to be pretty fast in the previous version of Stencyl, now it's unusably slow - I'm guessing it's because openFL got rid of hardware acceleration for this (that seems to be to blame for all the slow downs - like the drawing functions that are so much slower now).

I'm hoping it's possible to use the hue shader and that it's faster - but I need to be able to apply it to actors, not the whole screen.

I'm debugging my app on an Android device, and nothing appears in the game controller or the log, I've got 'view console in game controller' ticked.

When I try to compile for android, I get a " A library uses the same package as this project" error, anyone know the cause of this, or a way to correct it?

Ask a Question / issue with sounds in HTML5

When I play a sound in HTML, it doesn't play the first time. If I refresh the browser, sound plays first time. If I clear the browser cache, again, sound doesn't play first time.  I've tried work arounds like playing sounds with volume at zero, to preload but the results are not consistent. Anyone know why this might be happening? or a work around?

I'm trying to get multitouch working for an HTML5 game I'm building. I've tried following Letmethink's instructions here:,46244.msg257213.html#msg257213 but with no luck. I've looked at input.hx and it looks as if multitouch should work without any changes.

I'm working on turning json in to maps and lists, but am hitting problems - part of the problem is that if print to console an item from a map it just shows as (object object) if there was a way of the console showing what was inside the object as text it would be easyir for me to know what's going wrong. Anyone got code to show this?

I want to load an image from a URL but am finding it hard to test as  access control checks stop me testing in HTML5 or Flash. Anyone know of a workaround?

I've used a CORS extension in Chrome which theoretically will allow cross-domain, but it still blocks the download as the image is considered to be invisible by the browser.

Hi, I know I can do this by adding the script to the html5 template at Stencyl/plaf/haxe/lib/assets/templates/html5/templates/index
but is there a better way of adding as script? Ideally i'd keep the script in the games extras folder.

I'm getting a  'Warning: License for package Android SDK Platform 28 not accepted.'in my log when I try to compile for Android. I've tried everything to agree licences - running licences in terminal, clicking Y for al packages, but this still persists.

Deprecated Gradle features were used in this build, making it incompatible with Gradle 5.0.

I'm getting this error when compiling for android, any clues?

I'm trying to debug a crash, and struggling to get to the bottom of it.  When I debug in xcode, it shows the error as below.

I've tried turning off behaviours that use fonts - no difference.

This  app worked when compiled with stencyl 3.4

Crashes at :

with the error:
Thread 1: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address=0x30)

any pointer on where to look would be appreciated!

Finding it really frustrating updating my apps - things that were beautifully smooth in the previous version are un playabley choppy with low fps now I've updated to the latest stencyl. If I didn't need to export for iphone x screen size, I'd go back in an instant. Can anyone tell me what benefits the lastest version of openfl brings to stencyl - it is statring to seem like a real regresion?

Hi, I'm updating a game with lots of images attached  to actors, most seem the same, but some that have their origin set off center or are being rotated are in completely the wrong place or angle. Does anyone know what's changed in the way this works in the new version?

I'm updating my games and all si going smoothly, except one bit of code I used to alter the actors animations at runtime.
The new version uses a different way of drawing or storing the animations, and I'm trying to work out what it is.

This used to work to get the bitmap of the animation, which I could then use to alter themby superimposing new bitmaps on top.

_actor.animationMap.get(/* animation name*/).tilesheet.nmeBitmap.copyPixels(/* bitmap data to overlay */, new nme.geom.Rectangle(0,0,10,10)

Now it doesn't work.

If anyone can help I'm thinking of building an extension using the method  - it's a great way to add clothes etc. which I'd put up on here.

I'm trying to parse some JSON, and would like to use a variable. I know I cant use a variable in dot notation, but when I use square brackets haxe expects an Int. Anyone know the answer to what syntax I need to use?
