Ask a Question / Make the actor follow mouse, but also keep moving up?
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:07:32 am »
At first I thought it would be pretty simple, but I was wrong. I'm making a game where you have to go through levels by avoiding the walls with a character that is a small circle controller with the mouse.

I want the character to continually go up until he reaches a bigger circle at the top of the scene, the scene is 1920 pixels high and 480 pixels wide. After he reaches that bigger circle it's gonna trigger a small window with options, "Main Menu", "Level List" and "Next Level".

What I'm having problem with is whenever I test the scene, I either spawn at the top of the scene and I can move the small circle or I spawn at the bottom of the scene without the small circle.

I have the pre-made "Follow mouse" actor behavior changed to a scene behavior, so that the character only follows my mouse when in the level scenes, since I'm using the same character for the menu screen as the "." above the "I" in the title.

I can add screenshots of what I have in the events page if that will help solve the problem.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Walking in mid-air?
« on: June 05, 2014, 10:47:09 am »
I used the pre-made "back and forth horizontal movement" behaviour but it doesn't seem to work. I think it's because nothing is hitting the player from the bottom and so he's not on the ground. However I want him to be in mi-air while walking because he's supposed to climb a set of ladders and be able to move left and right between them.

So if anyone knows how to make a mid-air walking or mid-air horizontal movement actor behavior, please help.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Move camera to player doesn't work?!
« on: June 04, 2014, 08:58:59 am »
I tried doing it both on the actor's events and scene's events.

btw, I did include the block "Make player always active".

I have no idea what's wrong since this is my first game that has a scene that's gibber than the game screen. It's really annoying since without this I can't really progress with making the game.
Please help!

Thanks in advance.   :)

First of all, sorry for the long title. ;D I just wanted people to know what exactly they are helping me with so they won't waste their time.

Anyway, I'm making an iPhone 5 game, it's a climbing game and just like any mobile climbing game, it's gonna have an "Infinite Mode" after you complete the game. What I want is for the scene to be infinite, now I remember alot of people saying that I can make the illusion of the scene being infinite, but I completely forgot how to do it as I haven't been on here for over 2 months. I also want to know how to make the tiles seem infinite as well.

I also heard some people on here telling me how to make randomly generating actors as you go through the level... unfortunately I forgot that as well. ;D

So if you guys could tell me how to do all of those things, that would be absolutely wonderful.

Thanks in advance!

Ask a Question / Make sound play only once?
« on: April 18, 2014, 01:33:07 pm »
I am making a Flappy Bird clone and I'm completely stuck on adding the sound whenever the character passes through the pipes.

There was a post about this in the forums some time ago but, because the person asking the question used something different to what I did to determine if the character passed through the pipes, The solution didn't work for me and now I'm completely stuck and have no idea what to do.

I created a block that basically creates the pipes the same x distance from each other but at a random y position so the gap is at a random place every time you play, just like in the original.

I then created another block that says, if the x position of the character is bigger that or equal to the x position of the pipe, set score (the score is an attribute) to whatever pipe he passes. So for example, If x of actor >= 1000, set score to 1.
I did this for every pipe, so the next pipe would set the score to 2, the third to 3... etc.

I then wanted to add a sound every time the character passes through a pipe but, what ended up happening is when the character passed through a pipe the sound played like 100 times per second. I tried multiple things to stop this from happening but nothing works.

Screenshots would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Making a Flappy Bird clone, help?
« on: April 16, 2014, 05:10:25 am »
I'm working on a Flappy Bird clone but I just can't wrap my head around the coding. Basically i don't know to make the actor jump whenever you click space or the left mouse button. And I also don't know how to make the character stationary and make the scene move towards him.

Also I don't know how to make the character turn when jumping and falling and how to make him stop and fall to the ground when he touches the pipes/obstacles.

Thanks in advance. :)

I finished another game and I finished making achievements for it, however there are still 2 achievements that I don't know how to make.

Its one of those spotting games where you have to look for things in a crowded picture, in this case it's looking for people in a busy pixelated comic-con.

There are 10 people in total that you have to find but, I want the achievement to unlock when you find 9 specific ones. And I tried multiple things to tell Stencyl to unlock this achievement when certain actors are dead or not in the scene and nothing seems to work.

The other achievement is pretty much the same except I want it to unlock when all the 9 specific actors are found in under 10 seconds counting from when the game starts. And I never worked with time before in Stencyl so I have no idea what to do.

Screenshots for both solutions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / How to make an upgrade button?
« on: April 11, 2014, 08:12:54 pm »
I need to make a button that will take away a score amount and increase the speed that the score goes up by. I want the button to be in the top right corner of the screen.

I know that it's gonna basically work by being clicked on and decreasing the score which is an attribute, then increasing the actor's speed as the score is increased by the actor moving.

Now here is what I can't do.
1. I don't know how to make it so that when you click on it, it does all that stuff.
2. (this one is a little off topic but, it's still related) I don't know how to make it so that when the character stops walking, the score and "amount ran" stops going up. I tried putting under the "if" block, an "otherwise", "otherwise if" and "repeat until" block but, nothing seems to work.

P.S. Please include screenshots in your replies as I am a beginner on Stencyl.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Making a writing follow actor?
« on: April 11, 2014, 11:33:04 am »
I was switching between making 2 different games. And now that I finished making one of them, I can concentrate on the other one.

So I want there to be counter that shows "Ran Left" and "Ran Right". I know how to make them show on the screen and make their attributes go up as the character walks in the certain direction but, I have no idea on how to make the writing sort of follow the player's character.

Because the character is running and the scene is moving I don't want the writing to be at the middle of the scene as it would go left and right as the actor moves. What I thought would work is either for the writing to be set to the same x value as the actor or to be set to the middle of the screen (not scene). But I don't know how to do that.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / How to connect Stencyl with a 3rd Party API?
« on: April 09, 2014, 10:15:47 pm »
I red an article/guide on "Stencyl - Help", here is the link:

Since it's been posted barely that long ago, it's obviously on the newest version of Stencyl. However when I red that you have to go to the "advanced settings page" on the dashboard and went there, I only saw "Physics" and "Antialiasing", there wasn't anything to type in "API ID" and "Game Key" like it shows under "Setup".

When I opened Stencyl, I double clicked on my game then clicked on "Setting" on the toolbar at the top and as I was already taken to "Settings" I saw 3 different bits to change, these are "Main", "Display" and "Advanced". And as I already said there was nothing there that was shown on the picture in the article/guide.

Either I went to the wrong "Advanced Settings" or the newest version was published right after that article was made, which I highly doubt.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Collectable coins, sounds and Score counter?
« on: April 09, 2014, 05:25:48 pm »
I basically made the character and everything, I added animations and controls but, I don't know to make the game play a sound every time the character jumps.

I also made randomly appearing coins and I ticked the box "Is a Sensor?" in the collisions bit, so that the character's speed isn't affected when he collides with the coins. However I don't know how to make the coins disappear/be collected and play a sound when the character collides with them.

And obviously since there are coins, there has to be something that counts how many coins were collected, I also want the coin counter to be at the top of the screen.

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / Scene behavior not working properly?!
« on: April 09, 2014, 02:38:21 am »
I was watching a tutorial on how to make randomly spawning actors, and when I was following the steps and created a scene behavior, it didn't make the "when created", "always" and "when drawing" blocks on the event! it just showed up blank and I got really nervous, confused and angry at the same time.

Please help! :( Thanks in advance.

P.S. the link to the tutorial is:

Ask a Question / How to make something to count the distance and time?
« on: April 05, 2014, 08:17:25 pm »
I want there to be a counter on my screen that shows me how far I went in certain directions e.q. Went left: 200, Went right:200 and Played:1hour 20mins. So I basically want there to be 3 counters on top of the screen when you play the game and I want one of them to show how far I went to the left, one of them to show how far I went to the right and one of them to show how long I'm playing for.

Any idea on how to do that.

P.S. The game I'm making is just running for eternity. I still haven't figured out how to make an infinite scene and I posted a question/topic on it earlier. The question/topic is called "How to make a never ending scene and background?".

Thanks in advance. :)

Ask a Question / How to make a never ending scene and background?
« on: April 05, 2014, 03:50:36 pm »
Basically I'm making a game where you run for ever and I want the scene and background to never end which will obviously allow people to play for ever. I read somewhere on the forums that the best way to make an infinite background is to make the character stationary and make the background loop but, I have no idea on how to do that and I couldn't find anything about making the scene loop which in my case are tiles on the bottom of the scene which are the floor.

Thanks in advance.  :)
