Ask a Question / Defold
« on: November 11, 2016, 02:11:03 pm »
Just curious to know if anyone else has worked with Defold. I once unsuccessfully applied for a (non-coding related) job at King, but I'm letting bygones be bygones, and I'm gonna give Defold ago because it's free, and they have a competition running at the moment.

Ask a Question / Setting opacity dynamically
« on: October 10, 2016, 01:25:04 pm »
I want to set the opacity of almost every block on the screen according to each block's distance from the main character. Right now, each block has:

When updating:
Set "DistanceNumberAttribute" to "absolute difference between X of Player and X of self"
Set opacity of self to "DistanceNumberAttribute" divided by 8.

And it's super slow. Any advice?

That's how it works, right?

I have had a lesson planning disaster and I need to either

1. Find out a way to turn off debug drawing in a .SWF that is already rendered (this is impossible, isn't it?)
2. OR download a SWF of my own game from the stencyl website.

I thought I had a version on my pen drive but it's a version with debug drawing enabled and i need it for a class!

Ask a Question / Exporting to HTML5
« on: June 04, 2016, 12:27:10 pm »
It would be really, really, really great if HTML5 was fully funtional. Does anyone have any idea how/when this is likely to happen?

At the moment I'm getting the following errors, which i don't understand at all:

Ask a Question / Floats should be int error, doesn't make sense
« on: May 28, 2016, 11:20:56 am »
I get a "floats should be int error" that doesn't make sense to me here.

This would be a really useful extension for me. Anyone?

Ask a Question / facebook/twitter share in SWF/HTML5
« on: May 26, 2016, 01:02:25 am »
Is there an extension or easy way of sharing a screenshot from the game in Flash or HTML5? The RobinS extension only works for android and iOS.

Windows / Mac / Flash / HTML5 / prototype for my first job
« on: May 18, 2016, 03:05:31 pm »
Here's a little prototype I've been working on. It's going to be an advergame for the company I just started working with.

Ask a Question / Importing resources
« on: May 14, 2016, 05:39:34 am »
There's an option for exporting actors which creates a PNG file, which I believed contained metadata with the blocks and behaviours etc. This is not the case. So how do we import and export resources between different stencyl projects?

Second question: is it possible (with HTML5 and/or flash) to create a banner which, on mouseover, expands into a regular-sized game play area? Are these kind of banner ads usually done in HTML5?

Ask a Question / how secure are games made with stencyl?
« on: May 11, 2016, 01:57:55 pm »
Is it possible to change attributes by "hacking" a game made by stencyl? If it were, for example, a flash game hosted on a secure website?

Ask a Question / Is it okay to delete logs?
« on: May 08, 2016, 12:22:35 pm »
I have several GBs of .log files in /stencylworks/logs and I just wanted to check if deleting them is going to cause any problems. My guess would be no. But can anyone confirm that?

Ask a Question / Game won't open, logs posted
« on: April 19, 2016, 03:30:41 am »
When compiling the game (flash) I don't get any error messages in the logs, but the game won't open in the browser (I just get the loading image and then a blank space where the game should be). In the flash player i get the following logs:

Code: [Select]
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Paid Work / debugging / telemetry
« on: April 16, 2016, 11:59:43 am »
I'm developing a (primarily) mobile game and despite following the general advice on optimisation, I'm getting some pretty big frame rate problems that I can't figure out. If you have experience with telemetry, debugging, HxScout, or if you believe you could help out, please get in touch. I get drops to around 30 - 40 and sometimes as low as 20 at seemingly random times during play.

The flash version is available here: (use the arrow keys to move. Both characters move at the same time. Get the donut without letting either of the characters fall from the platform)

Here's what I've already done:
- Simple / Minimal physics where possible
- Continuous collisions is off
- Main atlas (only atlas) is 16mb at 4x
- Only two layers (plus background layer)
