Ask a Question / Character Controller

How complicated can I make the controller? For example I want my player to have normal run, walk, shoot, etc controls, however I want  in between controls as well, for example walking with rifle, running with rifle etc. Is this possible? I understand all this requires extra sprites, but I don't mind.

Any ideas on how to make the animation less rigid. Im using 6 frames. Im using a 3d model so I could import more frames, but would that kill game performance?

If i wish to use a background instead of tiles, how would i go about setting up collisions? Im working on a top down/isometric game, and i want to hand paint the background, reason for this, i dont want rpg maker look to my game. If i paint a rock or a cliff, can i manually assign collisions to these areas? Or could i make a layer on top of my background, inside a paint program and use that layer as collisions?

Im sure you have been asked this many times before, Im just not sure how to search for such topics.
How far can you go with Stencyl? is this a lightweight engine for basic platformer games or can I make a complex game like Stardew valley, providing I had the knowledge, which I don't, at least not yet?
Publishing games to Steam for example? How does pricing work, can I make my game for free than subscribe for one year only? What happens to my game once I choose to end subscription, does it get deleted from steam, as I doubt many here would be making more than $99 a year on their games.
