Stencyl Jam 17 / GO GO Penguin WIP
« on: December 09, 2016, 08:01:33 pm »
I started working on a game for the Jam today, It's just a incomplete level right now (expect bugs galore) with no end, but let me know what you think.
Controls:
Arrows to move
Hold "down arrow" to roll your penguin down ledges (kinda like sonic) while collecting speed stars and gems
hit "Space" to jump while walking/or rolling

Sample game story:
"Your late getting to your penguin GF's house. Get there fast, before her parents get home!!!!!!  ;D
oh and you should probably bring her some jewels, penguin girls love shiny things .....

Sample level:

Good luck to everybody who enters the jam, I hope we see as diverse of games as last jam   8)

Stencyl Jam 16: "Spooky" / Freeing Jack'O (WIP)
« on: October 13, 2016, 10:52:17 pm »
This is a puzzle/platformer I've been working on for the GameJam16, it probably should be more "spooky" but i wanted to make it  Halloween based also since it is coming up soon.

Basically your a pumpkin brought to life to collect candy for the devious 'King Candy"  for unknown purposes...
Move and place objects any where  to retrieve candy's around the level, roll giant donuts to cover spikes in frosting (nulllifying them) and more game mechanics to come.

Most of the graphics came from pzuh on opengameart.com you can find him here
 http://opengameart.org/users/pzuh

This is just the level 1 intro and very much a work in progress. It was nice to have the jam push me to maybe release something  I'm hoping to have time to get 3 to 4 more levels done by sunday.
Thanks for checking it out.  :)

Ask a Question / "Camera Follow" only working in 1x scale
« on: August 04, 2016, 02:18:38 pm »
Hello,

I have been working on a couple games and both seem to be having the same issue with scaling, The camera follows the player throughout the scene just fine when I use 1x scaling. However when I change the scale to any higher it seems to throw off the X,Y, coords for the "Camera Follow" behavior,  as I can no longer see my player unless I set scaling back to 1x, (even a block in my actor for the camera to always follow the center of self will not work accept on 1x). This makes any game scale higher then 1x scale unplayable.

I've spent hours trying to figure this out, I've tried different camera behaviors, searched the forum, what am I missing? this has been stumping me for weeks.  :'( :'( :'(

Ask a Question / Removed game by mistake :(
« on: May 03, 2015, 09:04:57 pm »
While using a terrible touch pad mouse I some how unintentionally managed to hit the"X" on my main Stencyl page and removed a game I had just started on, but was progressing nicely in. I had no backup of the game as it was just started yesterday. I can still play it from my  games-generated folder. I programmed stuff for this game for 12 hours yesterday and feel so stupid for not backing it up, Anyone know if here is there anything i can do?

Windows / Mac / Flash / HTML5 / Isometric castle building
« on: August 31, 2014, 07:04:24 pm »
I found a isometric castle wall sprite on Opengameart.com. I attempted to get them to work in Stencyl, it went okay, but the one big flaw is that i can't figure out how to get the walls to layer correctly accept when i build them down or right. If anyone has a solution it certainly would make it more fun.

Game Ideas / Battle Lines (working title) 2d sideshooter
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:02:14 pm »
Battle Lines is a project I started some time last week. It's a retro style shooter with simplistic graphics all made by me  8).
I hoping to launch it for android/ios with multiple ships/ upgrades and shared screen battle mode.

Check it let me know what you think, still bugs and much to do obviously.

Windows / Mac / Flash / HTML5 / Quick game made today
« on: January 06, 2014, 09:39:16 pm »
I made this "game" today, I found a way to let the player control the parallax scroll of the scene (tap the up or down keys in game). I attached this to a global variable, so I as you throttle your spaceship the background and the asteroids give the illusion of speed up. Anyways I thought it was a neat idea I'd share, let me know what you think.  8)

« on: November 23, 2013, 07:54:31 pm »
Invasion Force is my entry into Stencyl Jam 13, I learned a lot over the couple months making this game. I am thinking of evolving it into a "Orc's Must Die" trap based game. Any input is appreciated.

Defend your kingdom from the forces of evil. Faceoff against 6 unique enemies though 9 levels on 3 continents.

Updated 11/24
Resource gathering is now 2X as fast
Barricades now have more 2X HP

Updated 11/23
-Highscores added
-Bug fixes all around
-more updates soon (guards?)

Tips:
Gather resources
Build houses to gain population
Build houses and towers to recruit archers
Build the Mage guild to create Mage towers, which damage and slow enemies.
Build barricades on roads to slow enemy's
Dont let your castle fall!

Controls:
arrow keys move around map
click to interact with trees, rocks, roads, building, and icons

Stencyl Jam 13 / Invasion Force
« on: November 16, 2013, 12:02:37 am »
Invasion Force is my tower defense game with resource gathering and management. Defend your kingdom from the forces of evil. Faceoff against 6 unique enemy's though 9 levels on 3 continents.

Tips:

Gather resources

Build houses to gain population

Build Mage and Archer towers to damage and slow incoming enemy's

Build barricades on roads to slow enemy's

Dont let your castle fall!

Issues:
The guard houses are currently not functioning don't build
The current waves were made in a HUGE hurry and most likely need to be adjusted for difficulty

Controls
arrow keys move around map

Game Ideas / Galactic conflict
« on: June 03, 2012, 01:14:23 pm »
Galactic conflict is my upcoming 2d space sandbox game. It involves earning credits (game money) through veriest means like mining, fighting in fast paced combat, and exploring over (hopefully) 90 sectors. With enough credits you will be able to upgrade your ships and buy better ones by landing on the different planets around the galaxy. I am also hoping on having a faction point system so some items must be earned instead of bought outright. There is a lot more I have planed but i wont bore you with details.

In this test build:
Start off in a Alliance sector, don't shoot there patrolling ships unless you want a challenging fight.
go to the north warp gate that you started by, fly into it while shooting to go to other sector (not a intended game mechanic) to find a more even challenge.

Only 2 sectors in this demo.
All asteroids are destructible.
Ship radar and shields working.
Switch between 3 ships currently by using number keys 1, 2, 3,
The enemy AI needs alot of work so just bare with it.

Controls:
left arrow - turn left
right arrow - turn right
up arrow - ship thrusters
space bar - shoot primary
X - view map

Any constructive criticism is appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh C.
