Ask a Question / Re: How to advertise a game?
« on: Yesterday at 12:10:10 am »
Ah ok I found the game on gamejolt. I think what you are trying to do is very difficult here. Getting someone to play a flash game is hard enough, but getting someone to actually download a game they know very little about is extremely difficult. Your games visuals are quite unique, definitely not to everyones taste, looking at the screenshots I wouldn't go out of my way to download it.

What I would recommend you do is work on smaller games that you can release on flash on newgrounds so you can get feedback and keep developing your skills.

Where did you release them, places like Newgrounds and Gamejolt can bring in a few views, its difficult though, the game needs to stand out from the crowd in one way or another.

As in always to the left or the left of whatever direction the player is facing? If it's the second option then try adding a +90 direction of actor of type +90

Wont it work if you just drop the 'direction of actor of type' block into the Set velocity to direction slot?

Hey Stencylers,

I finally released Big Shot Boxing! been working on this game on and off for 2 years. Im really happy with the final result.

It is currently featured by apple world wide, it was a crazy busy week with lots of big name games releasing so I didn't get the best feature slots, but its going ok so far.

make something small first though, don't go straight in trying to make undertale, maybe do a game jam or make a mini arcade game.

Trying to make a big game, that could take over a year to build, with random people you don't know, has a 99% failure chance, in my opinion.

If there's that 1% left then I'd still give it a shot

I actually think that trying it is the best thing for you to do, we learn best from our mistakes ;)

You could do it the way below, but you would still need the other box for the click sound logic.

If its not too much trouble, you could try placing things using the screen width/2 block to find the centre of the screen and then just expand the width of your background to fill the iPad screen.

Ah yeah, that does sound like a better solution XD
I always find an excuse to use joints.

See the attached game file.

you will need the joints extension installed.

Use up and down to move the right box and Z/X to move the left box.

That should be possible with the Joint extension, using revelout joints. I'll see if I can make it work in the next hour or so.
