Ask a Question / Re: Cannot test game on ios device
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:28:53 am »
I only have the option for 10.1 under target ios, but minimum set to 8... still same issue. Also with the ios simulators it only gives me the option in in stencyl to use 10.1... thoe others are all greyed out.

No... I'll try that later.

I re-installed xcode.
I created a completely new game and scene and hit the test game button in stencyl with platform set to ios 10.1 simulator.

I got the same issue, with these lines being the ones I assume to be the important info (from stencyl.sw.util.StreamGobbler):

xcodebuild[3317:19703] CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary on line 211. Parsing will be abandoned. Break on _CFPropertyListMissingSemicolon to debug.

xcodebuild[3317:19703] Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=3840 "Unexpected character / at line 1" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=Unexpected character / at line 1, kCFPropertyListOldStyleParsingError=Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=3840 "Missing ';' on line 211" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=Missing ';' on line 211}}

xcodebuild: error: Unable to read project 'iostest.xcodeproj'.

Of course, thats what I was doing. I selected 'ios device' and hit the arrow top right in stencyl. Then when it errored out, checked the logs and it was an error parsing. Then as a test I manually went to the file and tried to open it and got similar response from xcode that I got from the logs. That log I uploaded was from stencyl... i assume the command line xcode end of the stencyl compile.

I have done all the provisioning and ID steps in the game settings but when I hit 'test game' button with ios device or simulator, it errors out. Logs say something about a parsing error... have a look at my last reply or the logs.

p.s. I am doing a personal provisioning profile on xcode 8.1, stencyl v9279 trying to run on my iphone 7.

Sydney australia currently (Origionally from South Africa, born to British & Danish parents)

My wife lived in South Africa for about 4 months a few years ago. She still talks all the time about how much she misses it there. I've never been, but she claims its the most beautiful place in the world.

Id agree... :) but not the safest!

When I first got gamesalad, I didnt have the right version of leopard and no decent net connection to update, so I bought photics book app and read it all the way through to tide me over until I could actually open gamesalad... but when I did, I had a pretty clear footing on how GS worked and especially how the maths side of things could be dealt with.

I would love to see a stencyl version as I think there is a lot more depth/flexibility to what stencyl can do...if you understand whats going on. Its a little harder to pick up on the surface though so having that explained well is invaluable.

Do it! as for format... id probably go for app as an ebook would be copied in no time and you could do android/ios ports.

The book did feel a tiny bit on the expensive side though... Im happy to pay, but maybe not that much next time... It was only initial excitement at game creation that spurred me to do it and I think lowering the threshold a bit will actually make more money via exponentially more sales.

Love them. Its so hard to find a new twist to puzzles and game design and I really love what you are doing. Your boxmen on your site had me scratching my head for ages.

Ask a Question / Re: Game wide variables and blocks
« on: September 21, 2011, 04:51:16 pm »
not sure how i missed a game attributes section... i was wondering if i was missing something! Thanks!

gigaclon : My question is more where do you create the block. from what I can see if you create a global custom block and want to edit it, you need to find the behavior you created it in. you can access it as an argument from anywhere, but you can only edit it in that first behavior (that is as far as i can see)... so is it best to make one behaviour with all the global functions you are intending to use, or can you create them outside a behavior somewhere specifically for that kind of thing. Things like distance between objects, angle between, that kinda stuff.  I guess its a bit like a little library of functions.

Anyway, just wondering. I am loving what stencyl can do :)

Ask a Question / Re: move to??
« on: September 20, 2011, 11:27:09 pm »
I assume you mean move in the direction of the target... as in apply force to an actor so that it moves towards the actor? I did something like that in a recent experiment and I used atan to figure out the angle to the destination with triganometry, then I applied a force to the actor with that direction. I think there are other ways... im not at my home machine or i'd include a screenshot.

Ask a Question / Game wide variables and blocks
« on: September 20, 2011, 07:35:22 pm »
How can I create a variable like a score that is available in all scenes? I am assuming global custom blocks are the way to create universal functions, but im not sure how to 'attatch' a behavior to a whole game or however the thinking goes. Would you have to transfer your settings to each new scene? :-\
