Ask a Question / Re: Commas every 3 orders of magnitude?
« on: August 09, 2013, 11:02:54 am »
I can't find the block
Add [] at position [] for []

I'm using Stencyl 2.2, I'm suspecting it's only available on Stencyl 3.0?

I have Stencyl 2.2, is the block

Add text [","] at position [currentNum] for [numDisplay]

in Stencyl 2.2? or is it only available in Stencyl 3.0?

Because in my version I can't find it anywhere :(

I'm managing money in my game, and it's very tedious to read big numbers without commas, so is it possible to format the drawing of a number?
Say, instead of "10000", display "10,000"??

(So I guess that's hard code... Brilliant)

You need to set (hard-code) these GA before saving for the first time. Setting them using the GA settings tab causes this bug.

Im having that exact same problem... how do you set (hard-code) a Game Attribue?

Ask a Question / Re: Where can I get Advanced training on Stencyl?

Thank you very much to all of you. You've been very helpful. I solved all the doubts to understand more complex coding I've been seeing on games I download, now I understand much more.

I'm finally ready to start.

THANK YOU ALL. And yes... practice practice practice.

AMAZING!! Thanks a bunch.

Already achieve a lot of optimization, had tons of lists, now i'm optimizing.

Is there a way to replace a number in that list?

EXAMPLE - From a list that has in index 2: "Exp/2000"

To get the "2000" i used: "get item [1] from [[split [get item #[2] from [some list]] using separator [/]]

But to replace that 2000 with 2100... how do i do it? I tried:
"replace item #[1] with [2100] from [[split [get item #[2] from [some list]] using separator[/]]
and no success.. :(

How do you substitute?

The split text block is used to convert that string into its own list, and then the needed value can be taken out.

So how do you take out the needed value from the list?

I already looked and bought some books and training but, for example, I saw some behaviors on the RPG Plataformer Kit made by Luyren on StencylForge, and he uses some pretty advanced stuff that I can't even start to understand...

He uses items in lists that go something like: "Health,Percentage,10/Consume Item"
And that only covers one slot on that list!! Where can I learn stuff like that.

Any ideas?

In GameSalad I was able to do it with no problem, but for Stencyl, it looks like a very hard thing to do (let the user write some text).

About a week with it. I was using GameSalad, but started to have other needs that Stencyl satisficed.

About the question.

That actually makes sense.

Now, i was looking for a way to name the player, like in Zelda o Chrono trigger, the player is able to input his name, and for the rest of the game, the other characters refer to you by your name, pretty neat.

Now I saw in EVENT, on the right panel, under GAME category, in the WEB palette, there is an attribute called "player's name". Does it has to do with what i'm looking for?

Is there a way to create a Home Menu that alows you to create and manage multiple profiles
on a game? And more importantly, save all the attributes and progress for each player.

Something like in SNES Chrono Trigger (See images sample in the attachments) or Zelda.

When you start a game, the story starts... you play, you finish playing and then you close the game.

You open the game again and now the home screen allows you to start a new game,
or load a previous one.

Can something like this be done on Stencyl? or do I have to use code : (
