Ask a Question / Re: Group - Group Collision unexpectedly firing
« on: September 17, 2016, 03:36:38 pm »
Found the problem - I changed the Group for the Enemy Bullet in the Properties tab but didn't change it in the Collision tab.

Why are there two places to set the group?

Is there a reason to have the group set in Collision tab different than the one in the Properties tab?

Ask a Question / [SOLVED] Group - Group Collision unexpectedly firing
« on: September 17, 2016, 03:12:06 pm »
In the attached game, in Scene 1, I have a Group-Group Collision event that should only fire when an Actor of group Bullets hits an Actor of group Enemies.  This is meant for the player's bullets to kill an enemy.

After being spawned an Enemy will fire a bullet of his own.  This bullet is in the group "EnemyAmmo".  When an Enemy fires a bullet he is immediately killed by his own bullet, even though it's not in the Bullets group.  In fact, it doesn't matter what group I set this Actor to (I've tried Doodads, Regions) - this Event still fires and destroys the bullet.

I know there are many other ways to set this up, I'm just really curious why this problem is happening.  Please take a look an let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

Abandoned Bugs / Re: Stencyl doesn't running on Windows 10
« on: February 21, 2016, 08:39:00 pm »
I had problems with Stencyl on Windows 10 with the default settings - at first it couldn't write to the Workspace due to permissions then when I changed the Workspace to a folder in my Documents folder that didn't help either.  When I went into the File -> Preferences menu and changed the Workspace to C:\Stencyl (a folder I created) it worked fine - I was able to run the Flappy Bird game found on StencylForge.  I still haven't had time to fully test it out but that worked.

Hope that helps!

Teaching with Stencyl / Re: Are you an educator? Introduce Yourself!
« on: July 07, 2015, 12:31:59 pm »
Where are you from?
- Originally Atlanta, now residing in San Francisco

What school or institution do you work for?
- I work for Ubisoft as a Senior Game Designer.  I volunteer teaching each summer for Innneract Project (http://www.inneractproject.org/).  This year I'm expanding the curriculum from a single-day, 4 hour session ("Learning Labs") to a four day, 4 hours/day program ("Video Game Academy").

What do you teach?
- Intro to Video Game Development for teens (middle school and high school)

How did you find out about us?
- I dabble with most game engines and came across you during a web search.

If applicable, tell us a bit about how you've used Stencyl in the classroom.
- This is my first year using Stencyl.  I've previously used GameMaker, Unity, and Kodu.

I've been enjoying working with Stencyl so far and can't wait to test drive my curriculum (class starts on July 18th).  I'm very open to networking and information sharing.  You can see some of my collected info on learning game development on my website at http://www.brianbartram.com

Best wishes!

Ask a Question / Re: Included Run and Gun Kit
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:59:42 pm »
I'm seeing the same thing in 3.2.   This example ("Run and Gun Example Game") came with the Stencyl installation and the behavior "Reload Scene on Death" does not work - if the player dies the scene does not reload and the only way to restart is to close and restart the game.
