Ask a Question / How to use coleislazy's Zoom Scene Behaviour?
« on: January 18, 2015, 11:58:50 am »
I have been playing around with the Zoom Scene behavior from on StencylForge and I have some problems with it.
I would like an example of how to properly use the Zoom please if anyone would be so kind as to place a short demo on the forge, it would help tremendously.

Also it may help to take a look at what I've been doing with it.  What I've been messing around with is on StencylForge.
Search under "Zoom with Mambo Bounce".

Ask a Question / Isometric or Top-Down Ramp/Slope Physics
« on: December 14, 2014, 04:15:59 pm »
Umm ... yea ... I'd like to make a racing game similar to Rock n' Roll Racing for the Super Nintendo, but I don't know how.

The main thing that I can't understand is the logic needed to make slopes work at any angle (to actually go up them not just jump).

I guess maybe what I would need is real Top-Down Gravity and then change animations of the cars based upon their direction and the angle of the ramp they are touching, but how would I go about doing that? How do I create Top-Down gravity instead of the usual sidescrolling gravity? Is there some way to change the direction of the gravity to Top-Down or do I need to create it manually?

Thanks for any help!

Ask a Question / Re: QuickLearnTutorials Tutorials And Request Page
« on: December 13, 2014, 12:35:11 pm »
I would like to make a SNES Rock n' Roll Racing style game. I'm requesting something specific that I'll need for it.

Isometric Slopes.

Could you please make a tutorial video on Isometric Slopes please?
And umm, you wouldn't happen to know how to Refresh a game screen without Restarting the level would ya?
There's a visual glitch I could solve with that info if you know how.
It may be something simple that I overlooked?
Thank You sdieters!

Paint Tool Sai (#1)
GraphicsGale
InkScape
Pencil
Synfig
The little editor that comes with Stencyl ("Pencyl"?)

There are other ways to do this.
One of them is to simply change your character's animation to one without a collision box
when jumping and set it back to the one with collision box at the peak height of the jump.
But Irock's way is probably pretty sound and likely better and the way I speak of while
being easier to understand at first, can lead to some nasty wall glitches if you are not careful.

An easy way to prevent that though is to change the jump animation back to the solid collision
box one if the x movement is too far away from zero.
(so that way you'll ony jump straight up through platforms and not sideways through walls).

Ask a Question / Re: ZOOM in on actor? -Help
« on: December 13, 2014, 03:11:15 am »
Look up "Zoom with Mambo Bounce" or just Zoom on the StencylForge.
It's in a game I'm working on.
Also, if my screen settings are too large for ya, try "Zoom Scene" by coleislazy.
(but you'll need to have a game open first to download that)

Btw, if anyone could help me figure this Zoom thing out, that'd be great.
I'm having an issue where the blocks disappear when switch to zoom out.
Thanks.

Hmm, what do you mean by "seemless scene reloads"?
Cause I sure could use a way to Refresh the scene without making the level Restart.

Lets say I want to reload the scene without reloading the positions of the enemies and the main actor.
Is this possible with a single code block using your system? Or would it be more complicated than that?
It would fix a bug I've been having regarding the Zoom behaviour and tiles not being displayed when
changing views.

So, if it helps with that, then the answer is YES, I could use a behaviour like this!

Ask a Question / Re: Can I make this type of game with Stencyl?
« on: December 05, 2014, 08:31:56 pm »
If you used so many buttons on a keyboard, it essentially becomes a Typing Game as well.
If someone does not know how to type, they won't be able to keep up with the timing.
That having been said, you could place a quick How-To on typing or at least home row finger
placement before the game starts. I like the idea and wish you good luck on your endeavor.

Ask a Question / Re: Question about changing the center of gravity.
« on: December 05, 2014, 03:31:46 pm »
Start with Sonic the Hedgehog's Loop Running and Turn it Inside-Out.
And then just change the Collision Boxes under Actor's Options. Make them curved around the edges.

Something like If within Range of Planet Center, and not within range of bump or slope on surface of Planet,
have Actor angle Look at Center of Planet and gravitate/move toward that, (make sure rotation is on so character will angle)
Otherwise If within range of bump or slope or whatever obstacle on surface of planet, set to Look  at Center of that object.
Otherwise set gravity to zero and angle toward direction pressed (so can spin the character while flying thru space) and set a movement in that direction if you have on jetpack.

A customized gravity/acceleration would be best as things like the 'push this actor by this force' oftentimes lead to some nasty glitches which are more trouble than the seeming ease of "I'll just use this ,it's already there" form of lazy mentality is worth.

The bullet/missile's speed and angle along with planet gravity will probably be factor in making it continuously spin around planets, but to make it drop to the planet, you may need to add something extra like friction where there is a steady decrease
of speed so gravity pulls it in more after time. Satellite + Friction = plummeting to Earth? I'unno .. heh.

All this is a lot easier said than done, but hey, it's fun to say it. :D

Ask a Question / Re: Getting <x,y> of a collision
« on: December 03, 2014, 01:24:28 am »
Set Absolute value of (1/2 width x position of 1st Actor MINUS 1/2 width x position of 2nd Actor)
PLUS Abs (1/2 height y pos of 1st MINUS 1/2 height y pos of 2nd) as VARIABLE.

IF VARIABLE is Less Than (a number you specify), then Activate Collision Code.
Or something like that anyway ... let me know how that works out and if I remember it correctly.

In your case I guess the 1st Actor would be the Spawner and 2nd Actor an object in your way where you don't want something to be spawned by the Spawner.

Lol, that sounds a lot like me, except for the productivity part where you actually make something.  :o
I don't ever get that far.  :-[

Yes, but I don't see a solution in that posting. I read through that already. How did you solve the problem?
Is there a way to make a game work after having checked the full screen option? Or is it just forever ruined from
ever working in a Browser ever again and I have to re-make the whole game over?

Bug Archives / Breaks Game from Ever Running Again in Browser
« on: November 05, 2014, 03:25:29 pm »
If you check "Start Game in Full Screen" under Settings/Display ... The game will no longer load in the Browser.
Instead all I get is a Blank Grey Screen after a black screen with a fake loading bar appears for a microsecond then vanishes.
It still works in the Flash Player, but refuses to work in the Flash Browser.

So, yea .... I'm using Build 7305, Isn't that the latest one?
Is there any way I can fix this myself or revert it back? ... I tried rechecking and unchecking the box to no avail. It stays broken.

It may help to add just a tiny bit of head/upper body movement as well.
