Make sure you have a Dialog Style called "Default Style" set up in the Data Structures extension. This also requires components like scaling images, tweens , and windows to be set up there. It would be a good idea to test the sample game, make sure it works, and see the sample games behaviors and Dialog/Data Structures set up to see how it all works.

I'm getting this error message when trying to get dialog to appear on screen after a specific actor is killed.

That's an error from the Data Structures extension. Maybe you need to update it to the latest version.


It turns out i was getting this error because I imported dialog extension before creating a game. (basically i downloaded stencyl for the first time and the first thing I did was imported the dialog extension then attempted to create a game.) So to prove this the cause I removed stencyl and deleted the workspace then re downloaded stencyl. This time around I created the game first then installed the extensions and now everything works as expected.

Those are pretty odd. Are you sure you got the engine extension installed in the right place?

[workspace]/engine-extensions/dialog/...

Finally figured out what was causing the crash at startup. I delete the stencylworks folder and prefs file in the home folder and now the application launches as expected and the dialog extension works. Thank you!

----(after getting this message to get a clean start I tried deleting the application folder and downloading a new copy from the website. the issue occurs even with a new download. However when I created a test user account on my Mac the issue did not occur there. Do you know where in the user library plists for stencyl are stored ? I assume its related to the user library because it does not happen in a known good account) ----

I'd suggest importing the sample game. Make sure that works. You can see how the sample game works by looking at the scene events, and looking through the dialog/data structures extensions in the dashboard.
Ok I'm making some progress... So I imported the game and before making any modifications I got this message when attempting to test the scene

everything is great, I imported the extensions I can see them in the application. however i have no idea how to get these extensions to make text appear in my scene. I looked all over the forum and like a noob could not find anything on it. Would a kind soul throw a dog a bone. Thank you in advance
