Ask a Question / Can layers be selected by player?

I'm designing a simple text based game, and am wondering if it would be possible to have different layers show up depending on what buttons the user clicked on the hud.

I started to develop scenes for this, but don't think scenes are appropriate because all the info from the various scenes need to be able to share data.

Anyway, any help withh this would be apreciated.

The best game I ever played had no graphics, and in it's original form the mechanics were fairly simply.
Didn't even have a story line perse...just grow to the biggest...or most powerful, or most honourable in the land.  Those were the official markers from the game developer.  The greatness of the game came from the other players...all 50,000 of them.  Some being your friends & allies...others enemies and nemesi..
Nothing beat the thrill of of turning one time enemies that could destroy you into stalwart allies that would die for you.
Or of turning 24 complete stranger into a team to survive and overcome the onslaught of the other 2000 kingdoms.

The game I speak of is Utopia

set animation to resting<--Do I create the attribute?  I downloaded a couple of featured actors and they don't have an animation attribute.

on mouse click<---should this be attached under the "when created tab"?

set animation to walking<---again don't know if I need to add this attribute, or is there a specific actor that already has this?

atang<---where do I get this?

would be easier if you could post a screen shot of the code block area so I at least to know where to find the code blocks by color & shape.

I'm working on the same...mainly simple strategy/tactical games based off of td and "survive the horde" style at moment

Though I'm having trouble with developing a mouse based movement system

I've been trying for the last couple of days to develop one on my own...but for the life of me can't seem to get it to work.
So would deeply apreciate any help the development team can spare in this regard.

P.S.  Also a simple animation to let the player know when/where the movement was activated would be a definete plus (kind of like warcraft 3 style) but isn't necesary.

Have a seperate area called "Game Creation" and have seperate subforums for the different aspects of it (i.e. game ideas, actor related, GUI related, music related...etc)

try changing your screen resolution to a higher setting.  That fixed my issue

I haven't tried it yet...but you could try importing an image from here into your art program that is 32x32 and use it for a basic guide.

oh wow...

this is similiar to my game concept for "chosen"
where in the micro part the player is focused on bein an armorer, farmer, monster hunter, magician, alchemist etc.
Except where the player kind of posesses the characters in the game to help them develop more along the ways the player wishes them too.

In the macro it's pretty much along the same line, except the player has to develop their province with 24 other players which form a kingdom where they have to defend against & conquer other kingdoms.

I'm new to flah gaming myself, think you might be interested in joining our two concepts?
Right now, I'm more focused on the macro part of my game...anyway, let me know what you think

just checked out "balls in space" on kongregate.  Exact same problem when it gets to the actual game scene

this is the same problem I had...on workin on my own games I found scrolling the first scene down to the bottom allows me to see the test scene in flash.

But I've noticed a few published games I still have the problem with.  I have never had any problems on any other site including kongregate.  But haven't gone to check to see if the games ported from here to there have the issue for me yet

A game concept based off of the old math munchers on apple.

Just an idea at the moment but figured the math bit would to determine success in every encounter or maebe something similiar to what the playstation games did for boss fighting where you had to push the different buttons in order within a time limit to kill the bosses (but instead use simple to slightly more advance math problems instead)

This isn't my main focus at the moment, just an interesting concept I want to play around a bit with & wanted to write something down less I forget.

Do you think it would be possible to develop persistant worlds similiar to runescape with flash?
If not, does anyone know any programs/sites likes this developed for Java?
