Resolved Questions / Re: IOS recommended sound settings

You could try converting it with Audacity and see if the problem is still there. I remember reading somewhere that it is better to use MP3. Is there a reason that you want to convert it?

Is that a custom block? what is triggering the Dies event?

Yes, they are custom blocks.

Both blocks (Dies and HeroDies) are triggered with an onclick event.
The onclick event is located in a behaviour, which is attached to a button (actor).

Ask a Question / Location of Code
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:30:07 am »
I am new to Stencyl. I noticed a very weird phenomenon. When the code is placed in the scene, it works perfectly. When the code is put in the actor, it doesn't work. I have tried this with several different pieces of code, and with several different actors.

Code with Actor <-- Doesn't work at all, or causes game to freeze, or works partially.
Code with Scene <-- Works as expected.

Please see the below images as an example. The code in the image on the top works fine. The one on the bottom doesn't switch the animation. Why is this happening?

Ask a Question / Re: Taking cover

I know you want some type of automatic AI for this but I am not sure how to do it.

However, I think professional game designers do this:
If player is in region 1, then move enemy back and forth from region 2 and  3.
If player is in region 4, then move enemy back and forth froth region 5 and 6.

Or maybe you could do this:
If player is in region 1, then make enemy follow path.

But when I added in the ShootTimer attribute, it doesn't create any bullets.

You have a 'if' statement and an 'otherwise if' statement. Can you make a third option, which would be an 'otherwise'.  Have it print something arbitrary to the screen. This will help us troubleshoot.

There seems to be something wrong with 'mouse released' or 'shootTimer'.  Things to try:
- At the beginning of the shooting, say shootTimer = 0.
- Make sure that shootTimer is an integer and the default value is 0.

I think you might be able to make a free account on, Weebly, or Squarespace and publish the game as flash or HTML5.

I am on my first game and it is a study / quiz app. I really prefer Stencyl over Construct 2 and Game Maker. I haven't tried the export modules though. We will see how it ends up.

Ask a Question / List of Audio files
« on: May 15, 2016, 01:34:55 am »
I am designing my game and everything is going great so far, but I need some advice.

How do I make a list of audio files? I have made lists of text files and lists of numbers, but I don't know how to do this with audio.

You are right. The list wasn't initialized.

Ask a Question / number of items - Not drawing

How come I can't draw list size to the screen? I can draw any number except list size. The font is working properly. I have 4 items in the list.

when drawing:
set current font to [ normal ]
    draw text [ number of items in [ list ] ]  at  (x: [ 40 ] y: [ 40 ])

Ask a Question / Re: Filing Maps

I found the solution. You can add 'Default Values' at the bottom of the Attribute pane. I had to resize the window to see it.

Is there a way to do this natively without an extension? I just want to populate the list when it is an attribute of an actor or scene. It works fine when I populate a list, which is a game attribute.

Ask a Question / Filing Maps
« on: April 27, 2016, 08:10:31 am »
If I create a map or a list in the game attributes section then I can fill the initial data easily. I can even import the data from a txt file.

But, if I try to create a list or map within an actor, I can't figure out how to fill the initial values. How can I do that?

Ask a Question / Re: How do you make an enemy follow a player?

Follow target or follow path will probably work.
