Hey congrats!
Being inactive for 2 month and booooom, everything is new all of a sudden!
Now all the skeletons are coming out of the closet :)
Congrats on the release and the new site! Time to make some games!

Updated with new levels and optimized for iPhone 5.
It's also available now in the Opera App Store.

Thanks, Phil :)

I finally managed to update the game with new levels and iPhone 5 optimization.
Besides the stores from Apple, Google and Amazon, it's also available now in the Opera App Store.

Unity comes with a free license (even for iOS/Android export) if you can live with the unity splash screen and are not making >100.000$ per year with your games. PlayMaker does cost ~35€.

When you combine PlayMaker with 2D Toolkit, you can also conveniently create 2D games while keeping the Unity workflow.

I found it helpful to choose proper keywords for the App Store. This can really push your downloads since user searches are often the only chance for indie games of being discovered.

If you have no idea what keywords to set, look them up from similar apps/games. (i.e. on http://appstorerankings.net/)

DooM II

It's a symbiosis of several very talented geeks - combining programming excellence, breakthrough design and gory art. I'm still playing it at times up to today (online client -> http://zdaemon.org/).

You're welcome. I've just submitted an update which adds iphone 5 screen-optimization and the latest Stencyl performance fixes.

EDIT: Apple already approved the update (in under 24h!). Attached are two comparison shots (you see more of the level on iphone5).

Great that you figured it out! I hope your game is back on track now :)
In case it allays your pain a bit: The error drove me also nuts and re-creating everything (to see at which point it might break) was a desperate last option. I had no idea why it worked ::)

Jens, did you do ANYTHING AT ALL differently that may have fixed the Android crash as you were rebuilding your game? I'm close to done rebuilding mine in 3.0 from scratch and just tested on my Nexus 7 and it's crashing again from the same memory overflow error. Of course, it was working not long ago, but I've added a lot of resources in the past few days.

There are 2 differences that come to my mind:
  • The attribute type called "game attribute" wasn't available for scenes back then (it was re-implemented recently, after some months) - so a global string was used to keep track of the current level
  • The number of overall sound effects was reduced
IIRC the heap overflow on Android happened during the upfront loading of sound files. Reducing them could be worth a try.

Chit-Chat / Re: Anyone still use stencyl.net?
« on: May 24, 2013, 04:52:24 pm »
It takes like a second for .net to redirect to .com. If I lost a second of my life for every time I visited Stencyl, well... I'd lose at least half an hour every year. Think of what you could do in half an hour.

It's totally worth that second. I mean.. it's .net (!)

Buying a (mobile)license is a very good investment in my opinion.
Here are 2 Android games made with Stencyl (shameless self-promotion):

Cubus Velox:

I've updated the initial post with a link to the first release version, Android.
If you want the game for free, just drop me a line (with "you" I mean every Stencyl user).

Thanks for the reminder - it seems that the latest build really nailed it this time :))
Just played for about 25 minutes and the fps never went below 50. Some micro-stuttering happened rarely (but it's nothing compared to previous builds).

I think the game is finally ready for release in its current state.
