Ask a Question / Re: How to create one way platforms?
« on: March 07, 2020, 10:07:32 am »
Hi !
Your current thinking plan works if you use actors as platforms :
First create two groups :
- one collides with your player
- the second does not collide with your player

Then put in the Actor Platform event :
When updating
If Y of self > Y of Player + Height of Player
Then For each collision shape of self
Set collision group to "group collide player" for collision shape
Otherwise
For each collision shape of self
Set collision group to "group doesn't collide player" for collision shape

(see the attachment)

If you want to use Tiles instead of Platform Actors :
Create 3 animations for your player : idle , jump , fall
idle has a collision box group  "collide with tiles"
jump has a collision box group  "doesn't collide with tiles"
fall has a very small collision box (1px high) on the feet of your player with "collide with tiles" group
+
the collision box of the one way tiles : 1pixel high

hope it helps, (sorry for the english mistakes, i'm french)
I'm working on something based on these two solutions, and for the moment it works well.
Would be very cool, some day, to have the one way platform option in the tiles editor ;)

try a higher value in your "do after"
0.05 should be ok

Ask a Question / Re: Jump and Run Kit for 4.x version?
« on: July 25, 2019, 12:01:26 pm »
hi !
don't use pre-made behaviors like the "run and jump kit"
create your own "run & jump" by using events : it's really easy and you'll learn better.
just google "stencyl run and jump tutorial" and you'll have a ton of exemples.

for exemple, these videos helped me a lot at the beginning : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF__tes8xCA&t=4s

good luck :)

ok, so I tried to understand your version and see how I can improve my zoom but it's a bit difficult for me... :'(
as far as I understand the Colburt's zoom is "attached" to the center of the camera, so for the moment it's ok because my main actor is in the center too.
Would be very super cool if you could do a new clean behavior with your code ! :)
Does the zoom takes into account the scales of the imported assets (x2 x3 x4) ?? I have a fullscreen problem and can't really see a difference between x1 assets and x2 assets when I zoom in..

I used the version of colburt,
I tried yours first, but some blocks events were missing (you can see in the attached files) so I installed the missing extensions :
easyMath / colorUtils / Label / tracingMotion . But nothing changed
Maybe it's because your Version < 4.0 ?

ThankYou Squeeb !! ThankYou Colburt187 !
Zoom In/Out works perfect on MacDesktop,
I work with "terrain " and didn't see a problem for now.
Zooming gives a lot of dynamism to my platformer, so thanx again !!

Is there a way to resize the particles (change color, gravity...) or should I do it before in the particle editor ?
thanx!

Hi !
thank you mdotedot for this work,
I downloaded your extension,  then created a particle.pex with its texture.png and placed in the extras folder of my game.
But now I'm not good enough to know how to show my particles... :(
Could you, or someone else, post screenshots of simple particles event ?
(with the "when created", "when updating"... blocks please !!  ::) )
sorry if this documentation is already available, I didn't found it.
thanx !!!

hey ! hello there,
I had a break on this project because when I started I didn't know much about stencyl so I made a lot of mistakes (import x1 instead of x4 ... etc... ) but now I have Stencyl Studio so I'll do some gamejams and come back to work on this project.

My mac is : MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6
My stencyl : 3.4.0 .beta4 (b9300)
Xcode : Version 10.0 beta 6 (10L232m)

Can you help me please ?
I purchased Stencyl and now I feel very frustrated : I can only test my projects with HTML5...

hey !
thank-you @NickamonPoppytail for playing and testing,

yeah i forget to re-initialize attributes related to the red fade, that's explain the bug you saw...
basically the red fade will "transport" the hero into the world of the "many eyed" (the lava world), but for the moment the game simply restarts.

I will correct the bug after the sylvester, add the "intro scenes", and show some screenshots of the Lava World.. ;)
