Ask a Question / Nothing is even enabled
« on: November 16, 2012, 10:09:59 am »
So i'm making this simple click game where you see a picture and then select the word that matches the picture and if you get it wrong you keep trying till you get it right.
Now what i'm having trouble with is just recently it's started showing a message when i try to run the game in the flash program. I've even disabled all the behaviors and it's still showing this message.

This is the message:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Maybe use the health pack on the 'Run and Gun Example Game'.
I'm saying this because i'm just trying to help and i'm not an expert on the attributes and behaviors for "healing".

I'm not exactly sure how this works but I've used this health thing off of StencylForge quite a few times. Just go there and type in 'Health' and it's the first one on the list.

EDIT: It should be called 'Health Pack' and it was created by Ceric.

Alright, i'll go put it in a few more places and post the results. Maybe if i let you use the game you could take a look at it yourself.

As you can see, I reached a total of 50 kills and the millisecond I do it crashes. Of course my FPS goes down and i don't possibly see anything else that is causing it to crash.

Should i put print commands in some of my other behaviors to see if they happen or not?

Good game so far but what you need to do is add a menu with some instructions because it just starts you off immediately. Also you need to make sure that when the actor is 'NOT [Self on screen]' the scene needs to be reloaded.

P.S. i think your description needs to be 'from the butcher' not to.

Hope to see some more :D

I put it in always and it just freezes when i get 50 total kills now.

There is a pre shipped behavior for a moving camera. When you add it to your character you the option to for it to either move without a focal point(your actor) or move by so many pixels ever frame.

On your count you'll just have to fiddle with the setting so that it works as fast as you base speed for your main actor goes.

Okay so you can either look something up on StencylForge for something like, When actor leaves screen - Kill actor then reload scene. (this would probably be the easiest way)

If you don't want to do that maybe use the Pre-shipped behavior for 'Cannot Exit Screen' and tweak if for yourself.

ALWAYS
-If[ NOT [Self on screen]]
--Kill Self
--Reload Scene

Ask a Question / Re: Player doesn't die
« on: August 21, 2012, 07:29:13 am »
Another problem it looks like you might have if you use this code is that your ship looks like it also fires the same exact kind of bullets. Maybe you can just make a duplicate of that actor then just name it differently. Then assign one set to your Main actor and the other set to your enemies and reset the collision groups after that.

Looks pretty good!
But this might be able to solve you're problem(look at picture). This is saying that when self[you're ship] hits an enemy bullet it dies. after that you can add something like, Fade to whatever.

A few suggestions:
(i understand it's still in work but i'm just pointing it out)
-the fade time is a bit to long, maybe tone it down to like .25 sec
-not all the enemy ships fire at you, so after i killed the ones shooting it wasn't that much of a challenge.
-maybe next time just upload it to Stencyl Arcade for faster results. Then after that you can just unpublish it or delete it at your own will.

Well this is what i have so far. I implemented both your strategies and it kind of works but not how i want it to.
Like since it's a 'When Created' it's only doing it when the level starts back up. e.g. after i die the next game i play it shows up. But if i do it an 'Always' it just keeps creating them when i get 50 kills.

Another side affect for when it comes up is that the game gets super laggy. I'll go ahead and upload it and then edit this post so that all of you can see what i'm talking about.

Okay, i published an extra version just with the achievement function added. The part that makes it lag is when you finally achieve a total of 50 kills throughout all levels and starting a new game when the actor finally appears.

Thanks so much for helping already guys.

-I'm not exactly sure about the double jump, maybe check up some behaviors on the StencylForge.

-What are you using for death of an actor? The preshipped behaviors for 'Die in Pit'? Maybe make a custom event for when Self leaves screen, Kill self and reload scene.

-When you say 'when he "passed" by screen' do you mean like as he is running he gradually slows down and then gets forced off screen?
==Only problem i see with that is, the player doesn't control the runner all they are doing is clicking    space to avoid obsticals and if the actor gets hit basically they fall off screen(where the die in pit comes in).
==Maybe if the player controlled the running, like using the left and right arrow keys to speed up and slow down at the players will. MAYBE then you could add this kind of behavior. Otherwise i don't see a use for it if the actor stays the same speed during the whole game.

Ask a Question / Re: How to make a background scroll in design mode
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:20:00 am »
I'm not an expert on this but i think you can take a look at SunriseKingdom's video tutorials for a moving background. I'm pretty sure you could just use the same animated background for it to work the same way.

Hope it Helps!
