Try using a game attribute. When the event is triggered, set it to true. Then if the boolean is true, trigger the event on the separate actor. :)

Needs a little more work, but it's great. I recommend using different controls besides the mouse. 8.5/10

Made things quick. Later I'm getting into console development like PS3 etc, but this is a great start.

Ask a Question / How do I make an actor cling to another?
« on: September 08, 2013, 01:39:30 am »
I'm trying to make a game with similarities to Mario. I want to do some power ups, and I want a shield actor to appear on my player's back. How do I have the shield actor cling to the player when he moves around?   :-[

Please note that the shield actor is NOT in the scene. The shield pops up when I "collide" with a certain actor. So I can't use the joint thing on the scene editor.

Nice job! Nice sounds, nice everything.  :)

Use game attributes. Such as a number or boolean. For example. If your player completes a level, increment "example number" by "example".

Make a scene or actor event.
If "example number" = "example"
(then do what you need here.)

Ask a Question / Re: Tower defense or RTS
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:02:58 am »
I've seen one involving Pokemon characters, type "tower defense" on StencylForge. The one I saw was by "Publysher". There are several versions. They're not completed, as I think they only have one scene. But it's a great example.

I'd choose some game. I don't have an iPod yet.  :( I plan to get an iPhone soon though.

new funniest bug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! me and my (hacker) friend just started Unity 3D together. we were messing about, learning how to do stuff. we found out how to place trees down, but he decided to make it when you place the trees, it spawns 5,000,000 TREES IN A LITTLE AREA!!!!! IT CRASHED UNITY 3D AND DESROYED OUR PROJECT!!!!

We laughed for like, 10 minuites.
This isn't Stencyl though. Posting privileges revoked. jk

I can't think of any funny bugs, but the mistake I used to make most often was wonder why a behavior just wasn't working. Inevitably, I had forgotten to attach it to the scene or actor. I've wasted so much time on that one issue alone.

I am now in the habit of creating Behaviors, then immediately attaching the blank behavior before doing anything else!
Happens to me a lot.  :-[

(I forgot to set a boolean to true, so the button wouldn't stop spawning.)
I haave done the same several times. lol

Funniest  mess up i EVER!!! Is when I was making my Space Marines game. I was making the shooting, and u couldn't make it switch directions when you turn a differant direction, so I made pressing Z make the bullets shoot backwards. Well... When you pressed Z, it looked like the bullets came right out if Samus's backside!!!:)

I was never able to fix that. :(  so, you can see it here.

Easy to fix. Make a boolean. Facing right.
If animation for self = Walk Right, or whatever
set Facing right to true.
Otherwise
set facing right to false.

Then on your event to fire
If control is pressed
if facing right = true
create bullet at x: y:
push last created blah blah blah.
There would be jumping animations, so it'd be better to just put if right was pressed to set it to true, and if left was pressed to set it to false. You could do it with animations, but considering the player can move in midair there's better ways.

Mr. Banana! How is you are? Haven't seen you in a while. (2 weeks)
