Teaching with Stencyl / Re: How to Install on a school network (Windows)
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:37:04 am »
Hi,
I'm trying to use Stencyl on a school network and I'm finding some similar issues.  As well as the work directory issue, non-privileged users can't compile unless they are allowed full access to c:/ProgramData and are allowed to issue commands at Command Line level.  (By default neither of these is true in our network.)  I'm negotiating with our System Manager about this, but any suggestions would be welcome.
On the subject of the working directory, I notice that in the C:\ProgramFiles\Stencyl\prefs folder there is an empty file called default.prefs.  Does anyone know what this does?  I was hoping that you could put a default commands in there, such as global.workdir=N:\Stencyl and this might then work as the default for all users, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Love to hear if anyone makes any progress.

Hi All,

Anyone got any info on this?  I've still got the same problem and I still can't work out what's causing it!

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I am running Stencyl in a school Windows network environment, which uses a Smartcache proxy server.

When I try to sign-in in Stencyl I get an error messages that flashes up and is only faintly visible but nothing else.  There is an error in the logs that says: Could not sign in because of networking issues.

Specifically:

[ERR] Could not sign in because of networking issues.
[ERR] 1) You could connect to our servers, located at http://www.stencyl.com.
[ERR] 2) Our servers are down.
[ERR] 3) Our servers have moved, and your DNS cache has not been updated.

Our Smartcache proxy server does restrict access to some websites, but I don't have any problems accessing any part of the Stencyl site (that I've tried) from a browser.

If anyone can help me on what the specific error in the log means, or any specific URLs I need to make sure I can access, I'd be very grateful. I've attached the logs and the boot.txt file, in case that helps.

Thanks

Mike Hodges
