Chit-Chat / Irock Inquires - Stencyl interviews
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:02:15 am »
Irock Inquires

Irock Inquires is an exciting, totally original series where I interview Stencyl users about their projects, Stencyl and game development in general. It is my hope to have developers spread their knowledge, and my hope that we can all learn from one another by reading these interviews.

Visit the Irock Inquires page

Interviews

Dungeon Rush! - I interview Luyren and Strasteo about their game, Dungeon Rush!

Rocketeer and the Developer Behind It - For the first edition of Irock Inquires, I interview Blob about his game, Rocketeer, and his history with Stencyl.

Chit-Chat / Rice Cooker - Any Reccomendations?
« on: March 19, 2011, 04:54:17 pm »
We're moving back to our house at the beginning of April, so we'll have much more space for stuff in our kitchen. I'm looking to buy a rice cooker so I can make delicious white rice instead of that undelicious bag boiled stuff, but I don't know anything about rice cookers. It's so overwhelming.

I know there are some (at least one) people familiar with delicious food, and I was wondering if they had any rice cooker recommendations.

It seems there's still some IRC stuff left in b368. I changed my nick in IRC, launched StencylWorks, and it automatically connected me to the IRC server. This causes the nicks of users to be taken and puts a large amount of users on the server that apparently can only disconnect when I manually kill them.

Dialog Extension / Dialog Database Index Thing
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:14:00 am »
Ladies and gentlemen, prepared to be blown away!

I don't really know what I'm asking for, how many things I'm asking for, if it can be done with an extension, if it requires modifying the game engine, how difficult it would be or if it could be done at all. That's why this thread is in "Working with StencylWorks" - I want a discussion right now.

In a nutshell, I want a global script or multiple scene scripts of dialog and dialog commands that I can reference parts of from behaviors.

This idea is totally rough and based on the easy (in my opinion) way Cave Story does dialog.

A behavior would reference #0200 from a script, then the content between #0200 and the next number would play.

#0200

what I did with the soup.<NOD> Well, I ate it.<WAI=0.8>
So leave.<NOD><END>

The benefit of this is, it's significantly faster to make dialog this way and you have quick access to pre-defined actions via commands in brackets.

This isn't essential to anything I'm working on right now, but it would enable me to create some games I really want to create in the future. I want to know how feasible something (loosely) like this is in Stencyl. If it's not feasible at all, are there any other easy ways I could accomplish dialog? I know the answer's probably going to be "this is physically impossible you are crazy" or "yeah, I'll have it done in 5 years" but I might as well try!
