Windows / Mac / Flash / HTML5 / Electric Moon
« on: May 31, 2015, 10:41:18 pm »

Play on GameJolt

CAN YOU DESTROY THE ELECTRIC MOON?

I made this over the course of a week for 5 minute jam. the game's probably longer than five minutes unless you're really good because the game's probably too hard.

Suggestion Archives / [DM] "for each actor" loop
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:51:48 am »
I'm not sure why there's not a wrapper that iterates over every actor in the scene. I've needed this in the past.

Suggestion Archives / [SD] Make Actors and Tiles searapte panes
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:48:33 am »
Right now Actors and Tilesets are in one pane (the Palette), but I can't think of any reason why they can't each have their own panes.

Left is current selection. Top is current behavior when dragging with multiple tiles selected. Bottom is how it should be.

This minor change would save me a lot of time.

Chit-Chat / Post Your Stencyl Game Library
« on: February 21, 2015, 03:06:32 am »
reveal your deep dark secrets

I've started more Stencyl games than this but I don't have all of them unfortunately

(the one blurred out is a current freelance job and I dunno if I'm supposed to show it)

It would be nice to be able to (optionally) see certain instance customizable attribute values from the scene designer canvas at a glance, without having to double click on the actor.

Attributes could be made "scene designer visible" from design mode, next to the "hidden" checkboxes. Their attribute name and value would then, in the scene designer, display on top of the graphic of the actor. Visibility of this feature would be toggled the same way the grid is.

This is a really on-the-nose anti-war game I made yesterday for this guy's gamejolt shooter jam. You shoot sad guys who explode into fireworks while patriotic music plays and a fat man blows smoke up your ass.

Chit-Chat / Global Game Jam 2015
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:06:39 pm »
http://globalgamejam.org/

Is anyone here participating in the Global Game Jam this year? If you're not familiar with it, it's essentially like Ludum Dare except you must visit a registered physical location and work in teams.

This is gonna be my first time taking part in one. I'm slightly nervous as I don't know what to expect or what my role will be since I don't specialize in anything. I'll also probably wind up having to use Unity since it's so popular, and I'm not well versed in it. I also don't have much experience working in teams. :o

This ought to be a worthwhile experience nonetheless, even if it turns out to be a total train wreck.

Stencyl Master Dojo
B e c o m e   G o o d   a t   S t e n c y l

Hello, I'm Cory Martin. I've been developing games for ten years, have been a member of the Stencyl community for eight years and have actively used Stencyl since the private beta in 2009. My games have been played hundreds of thousands of times, have been featured on the front pages of Flash portals and have won or highly placed in numerous Stencyl competitions and won many monetary prizes. My games have also garnered the attention of websites such as indiegames.com, freeindiegam.es, jayisgames.com, earthboundcentral.com and have been played by Youtube personality, Markiplier, who has over five million subscribers.

I am offering to personally teach you what you need to know to become good at Stencyl and game development in general via personal, one-on-one Skype audio/screenshare calls.

What Can You Teach Me?

The only limits are your aspirations and my abilities. We will work at your own pace and cover what you want to cover.

Generally, I will be able to teach you everything about Stencyl except Code Mode (but I can still teach you how to program in Design Mode). We can go as broad or as specific as you want. Want to know how to effectively make your own behaviors in Design Mode? Need to know the Stencyl basics? Have a problem you're stuck on? Anything else? Let's talk!

Don't know if I can help you with something? Ask beforehand!

In addition to learning Stencyl, I can also help you with or teach you:

  • Game Design - I can play and critique your games, offer detailed real-time or text-based advice, help you improve as a game designer and answer your game design questions.
  • Graphics - I can help you get started making pixel art or help you along your journey to becoming a Master Pixel Artist.
  • Music - Want to make your own music? I can teach you what I know in Logic Pro / Garageband and give you a good foundation to start off of.

How Much Do You Charge?

$10 USD per hour.

Remember, you control the pace we go at and what we focus on during my time with you. For the hours you have me, I'm your personal Stencyl Game Development Assistant.

You can pay me through Paypal after the session is over or before we start.

What Do I Need?

  • Skype for audio calling and screensharing. Skype is a very popular communication application and is completely free.
  • A microphone to talk (unless you want to type).
  • Speakers or headphones to hear me (unless you want me to type).
  • Stencyl (unless you just want pixel art or music advice).
  • Paypal for paying for this service.

Let's Do It!

Send me a personal message on these forums or reply to this thread letting me know what you'd like to learn about and when you'd like your session to be. Be sure to include your Skype username. We'll add each other and start the session whenever works best for you.

"Honestly a great tutor, fun and easy to work with.
If I had ten thumbs I'd give him ten thumbs up.
Highly recommended by me."

Ludum Dare 31 / Join us in chat! (Ludum Dare)
« on: December 05, 2014, 06:03:56 pm »
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm going to try and hang out in the Stencyl IRC chatroom during my active time this weekend. Feel free to join us. Don't be afraid to ask for help, but remember that we're probably all working on our games as well so be patient (plus you'd get more eyes on it faster if you just posted in the forums instead). See you soon!

If you don't have an IRC client, just jump on the one provided here:
