Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Re: Bug in latest (Mac-) build: Class not found
« on: December 28, 2014, 05:01:38 pm »
It's a good idea to keep extensions up to date along with Stencyl if you wish to keep using them.
You're right, Justin. But on the other hand, I don't want to search the forum for updates for every single extension after I downloaded a new version of Stencyl. I am really tired to get my toolbox fixed with every update of Stencyl.

I do not use Stencyl for production, but for now I keep it like this: if something is not supported by Stencyl, it simply doesn't exist. Simple as that.

Don't get me wrong: I really appreciate your (brillant!) work! But this silly stupid bugs like this are in summary really annoying.

Thanks for fixing it, Captain

I got another random Exception with the build, but I haven't copied it as it happened only twice. Will create a new post if it happens again. In the meantime, I will throw away all extensions to make sure that at least Stencyl runs stable.

Was this bug special to my current setup? I think, I will deactivate any extension now and purely rely on the main toolset.

Happens after opening a game (and closing it later) or when I try to open a scene (but doesn't open any window)

Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Re: pencyl not working

As a product manager, I would suggest to get rid of it and concentrate on your own toolset. Recommend a number of tools, such like Gimp or Photoshop Elements (for those, who are willing to spend some bucks on their toolchain)

What??  you mean 42 is also the question? ***Mind-blown*** it all makes sense now  :o
42 is everything. The answer. The question. The universe. So simple.

Sorry, I forget the question. What are we talking about?

I haven't released any Stencyl game on Android yet and thus I haven't seen any ANR's, but I guess you need to know to track down the CPP or Java Stack Traces into the HaXE code of your build and then this into the Stencyl VPL to see what's going wrong... I assume that's not a easy task for the most users of Stencyl.

Chit-Chat / Re: Stencyl vs Unity 3D
« on: December 02, 2014, 10:15:26 am »
I am a "traditional" programmer since 1982 (yes, I am old) and have developed a number of applications and games in a variety of languages. Complex games, simple games. With game development kits (yes, we had them also in the 80s) or without or pure API based stuff on mobile phones around 2000 (early Brew and Java devices such as Phillips, Siemens and Nokia handsets).

Our company uses Unity for our native games (Windows, some iOS and Android) and HTML5 for mobile. I tried Stencyl because I liked its way to get a quick result once you specified out what you need (I use it for prototypes only). And that's the point: without any concept or idea, neither Unity or Stencyl is easy to learn, to handle or better then the other. It is just a language or toolbox. Noting more, nothing less.
From my experience, I would say
- Unity 3D is doing a great job in 3D
- Stencyl is doing a great job in 2D

"I checked it very thoroughly," said the computer, "and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is."

Twinery exports plain HTML, Inform uses a player.
