Ask a Question / Re: Sending output from Stencyl to Arduino Uno.
« on: March 22, 2016, 04:10:08 pm »
I'm not sure if Stencyl can send messages to an external text file, or via the likes of midi or OSC, but one solution could be to attach a light sensor to the corner of the screen, then have the arduino read a low value from it as the on value that triggers your LEDs.

Suggestion Archives / Re: Raspberry Pi 2 Support

Hi waj2008
have you made any further progress on this since?
I think Raspberry Pi 2 support for stencyl is a great idea

Hi Rob1221

Thanks for the quick answer. I find the lack of support a bit weird though, it loses a chunk of the market for OSX desktop builds... is there any way it can be achieved at all?

Hi

I have built my game using Stencyl 3.1 in the latest version of OSX (Mavericks)

My game works fine on my setup, and on similar machines

However, the game won't work on OSX 10.7.5. The icon highlights when clicked, but quits instantly.

Any advice on how to make a backwards compatible OSX project through Stencyl would be much appreciated, as this is causing me major  problems  :-\

Many thanks

Kieran

Hi Legodude,

sorry no demo out at the moment!

Hi all,

My game has been out since September 2013, but I hadn't mentioned it here previously.

It's called CONTROL and you can read more about it here:

Here's a video of it :)  http://vimeo.com/74363610

Ask a Question / key combo to exit to desktop
« on: September 21, 2014, 01:26:34 pm »
Hi all,

Is there  a way to set up a key combination for exiting to desktop from fullscreen mode, instead of using ESC.
I'm setting up my game in a public space and ESC seems way too easy to hit :)

Many thanks

Kieran

Extension Ideas / Re: [Windows] Gamepad Extension

I'm not using any joystick drivers, I'm on Mavericks

I'm using this retro-link atari to usb cable along with a clone of an atari 2600 joystick

Hi DudeMakingAGame

It turns out I had 2 versions of the extension going, so I deleted both and just uploaded the latest one
I've also changed the values for joystick sensitivity to 1 and diagonal threshold to 1.4

So now it's going good, I can calibrate the controls, and the little dude is walking in 4 directions and also diagonally (on a mac)

What I'm confused about now is how is how to make these values stick, and get rid of the calibration stage

Also, how can I add in a value for a fire button, and match this to or alongside the keyboard key I'm using for a fire action

many thanks

Hi

I am trying out this extension (both the first version and the latest) with the sample game (on both windows and osx), but when I try to compile I'm getting the following error:

Confirm Configuration (62) -  Unexpected )

Any help would be greatly appreciated... also does anyone have an example with calibration values hard coded in?

I've attached a screenshot of the block that is highlighted in the IDE from this error

many thanks

News / Re: Stencyl 3.0 - Design Once. Play Anywhere.

Just seen this today... I had no idea about the scale of the operation

Wow, a huge well done to Jon and the team, it is a serious product with serious work put in,

Be very proud of this continuing achievement, and the many creative projects it enables

We're not a 10 person company like Corona Labs, no funding, no employees on payroll - we're running off a skeleton amount of help here, with just me full-time and a couple people volunteering part-time. Under this kind of arrangement, it's practically impossible to make guarantees.

If you need something today, I'd personally never plan on using upcoming software that wasn't out. Use what works today. Go with the 200 person company's product.

The technical reason why it's taken so long is that Haxe/NME hasn't been as stable and solid as we would have liked on mobile, and this has really held up the process and burned the few people we have contributing out. From a release standpoint, it's really just 1 major issue standing between us and an adequate public release, but it's one that we've been stuck on for a while and isn't simple to fix.

Has anyone tried to bring this functionality in to 3.0 through a hack? It would make a great addition for desktop games, I would love to include it with a game I'm about to release.

Old Questions (from 1.x/2.x) / Re: Behaviour for changing background
« on: July 16, 2013, 02:39:53 pm »
I'm making a desktop game with changing backgrounds, I ended up using a screen sized actor and switching between animations for it based on an attribute value.

I did try the code from this thread, I'm not sure whether it's an error on my part or if the feature is not implemented in the current beta version.

Ask a Question / Arduino as a controller for Stencyl
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:21:28 am »
Hello,

Just wondering has anyone used the Arduino ( www.arduino.cc ) to control
games made in Stencyl. What I'd like to do is build a custom controller. So
for example, it would have up, down, left, right as normal, but also a light
sensor so that if it's bright in your room, the game world is daytime, if it's
dark in the room, the game world is nighttime...

thank you in advance,

Kieran
