Archives / Re: A "Get Actor by Name" block
« on: October 29, 2013, 05:06:59 am »
I think this should be a feature in stencyl, listing trough a list of actors by their names/IDs.
I wanted to create several actors using a loop block but I couldn't.

I will check stencyl 3.

the problem is not concatenating.

Read carefully: which block to use to reference actor by its name?

If I have actors called: 1, 2, 3 how do I create them in a loop block by just saying

create actor 1 at x, y then
create actor 2 at x, y
create actor 3 at x, y

But I guess it is not possible?

Ask a Question / Creating actor by its name
« on: October 28, 2013, 02:12:38 am »
Hello. I want to optimize my game by seprating one button actor into 36 button actors which represent level buttons. Each of the buttons are named level1Button, level2Button, level3Button etc...

So I can bassically create them by concatenating string "level"+levelNumber +"Button" but I don't know which block to use. Is there a block that can help me achieve this?

Or should I do some trick with lists?

Note: the problem I have is this:

I tried to keep all images as animations in one actor but when i place 36 instances of this actor the memory allocated by the exported flash file is 100MB :) I get lot of duplicated animations which I don't use at the same time. I have 36 images for button enabled state and 36 images for disabled state of the buttons. So i have 36 buttons x (2 x 36) which is 2592 duplicates on stage

Oh, I see. I will put 80% on both places to shrink to 80% percent width and height.

thanks

This will not work?

I tried grow and i put -20, -20 percent and it turned the actor upside down, appart from changing the width and height :)

Ask a Question / Change width and height or scale actor by X and Y axis
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:02:45 am »
Hello. I am creating several instances of same actor and I want to change their width and height or simply scale them down a bit on X and Y axis. I know the block create -> actor but it has only x and y properties.

Is there a block to create actor but to also change width and height at runtime?

Or is there a better way to achieve this?

Can you please make a dialog window which would ask "would you like to delete the selected animation"?
I have just deleted 3 animations by accident.

Or if that is not a case please separate the buttons or something.

I found this link http://www.emanueleferonato.com/2012/06/01/stencyl-complete-concentration-game/

also this game is the same example built according to the link "Memory Test Game", http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/14075

Ask a Question / Call specific actors on scene and switch animation
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:52:40 am »
Hello. I am making a memory game. The mechanism is like this: you press on random card, it flips on the sign side, you press another random card it also flips on sign side. If both cards are the same they stay flipped if not they flip back again on the cover side.

How do I call only the specific actors(cards) which were clicked and flip them back? But also how to leave the corectly guessed cards flipped?

Should I add code blocks on the scene or use different approach? Can I use scene attributes to reference actors?

Ok guys got it. I think with animations is better. I will keep track of the file size though

Not sure which to choose. I plan to add about 20 flip cards which seems alot in bytes even if I make them in one big spritesheet. I just tested with one card and it has 9 images into the animation to flip from front to back. And I don't know how to stop the animation from the start. I need the card to be clickable so when clicked the card flips like in a memory game.

Even if I go with animations there is lot of work in editing the images. I managed to create spritesheet of my first card and somehow stencyl cuts of the edges of the last frame in the animation. So I had to edit the frame with pencyl
